Education and Women

Something Sara said caught my eye. She said a woman he is not going to work should not be taking someone’s seat in a school or a college, becuase she is not going to put that education to use.

I didn’t want to spam the thread with off-topic comments. So here is what I think. Education is not a privelege. It is not a luxury. It is a necessity of life. It is a basic requirement for you to function as a normal adult. I do not care if it is Pakistani, Indian, Somali or British education. You need to have an education to function in todays world.

That certainly does not mean you need to put your education to use in a work setting. People do IT as a background but end up working as paralegals at a law firm. People do economics but end up doing rescue and military work. Your education does mean you can only work in that narrow field.

Women deserve an education at all levels. Doesn’t matter if they are going to use it in the work setting or not. Education is not limited to a job. Education is to do that educate you on a variety of things.

So the question I have is if you think women should not get a college degree because they won’t use it, are you basically saying unless you plan to work women should not bother being educated?

Feel free to merge this with the work thread.

Re: Education and Women

Thats the most lame argument i have heard (no offence).
Lets look at it from Islamic Prespective:
Woman is the key that holds knowledge <- i.e. She should be educated before a male.

Now this may shock some ppl...but its true. The reason - cuz woman is someone who spends more time with her children - These children can gain better education and understanding if they have someone who can direct them. Just because a woman might decide to become a housewife - does not mean that she should not educate herself.

Re: Education and Women

^ you guys are both saying the same thing in different words...so whats the argument?

Re: Education and Women

note to self: read the whole thread before replying :clown:

Re: Education and Women

haha.................it dont matter if ur gonna work or not i think that everyone should still get an education..............to survive in todays world u need to be educated in some way and therefore it does not matter if u are planning on working or not......................lol

Re: Education and Women

i agree with you,
i'm finishing my degree soon Inshallah
but i am not going to work, that dusnt mean my education is going to go to waste.
with what i kno, i can educate myself further and those around me, and inshallah when i marry and have children i am going to be the 1st person my kids come to for answers, if i wasnt educated, i wouldnt be able to give them a sensible answer :)

& i am NOT saying tht women who arnt educated cannot raise well behaved educated, infact they do it very well

Not in college, not at an undergraduate, even graduate level, i was referrin specifically to medical/law/business fields

**Your right, but many wud disagree with the education as being a necessity because they dont feel education shoudl be available to women..

**In the last line I think u meant to say “education does NOT mean..” ? Many people explore different career paths in their lifetime that are not limited to what htey majored in undergrad.. my dad was a criminal lawyer here, and when he wnet to US, he worked for mayors office building houses, and now runs a farm in kasur.. i said it before, priorities, interests etc change so it only makes sense tochange ur carer path, do something more intresting rather htan stick with the same ol crap day in and day out just because you majored in it.. nothin wrogn with a bit of change.. **

Everyone deserves an education.. i’m talking specifically about undergrad here, theres many students who do not know for sure what to do careerwise. They should be able to learn a variety of things, explore different options (thats what undergrad is for :halo: ) before pursuing ne thing else.. But after a certain level, I think you should be able to figure out what you want to do xactly, and have a clear plan of what you wanna do, either as ur first choice or as a backup.. I feel like a parrot, ive said to so many times, college degree(s) is one thing, having a medical/law degree that you never intend to put to use is antoher..
