Many European Countries have either free education or cheaper alternatives available readily, even for students from non EU countries.
Has anyone here explored this area? can you highlight the pros and cons of it.
I have seen alot of Pakistani students shifting attention to these countries for two reasons: first, they dont have to pay for the degree. Second, they feel its easier to get a residence permit in that country and then later travel into the UK and settle down here .
I dont know the truth of it all , but if anyone here can share advise it would be nice . Alot of Pakistani students ask me about it and I find it difficult to let them know of any possible opportunities / challenges in this regard.
CB: That golden period is ended now. Year 2012 was last year when non EU student could get free education from European Universities. Many of my friends enjoyed that freedom of free education in English from Swedish Universities. Now, this option is no longer free for non EU students. Universities are now taking fee from international student. Again, this information is given to me by my friend so you need to double check. Just in case, if you want to research , you can look into Swedish universities, they offer quality education in English language.
^ahan so they dont give full scholarships now?
what is the standard of engineering universities in sweden?and other euro countries?(interms of scholarships and getting work permit after that)
STA , thats a very helpful response , since you have friends there , any chance you can dig for us a bit more .. Like , lets face it students dont for there for Quality, they want a degree and then settle down in Europe so thier ultimate destination can be UK .
so how do these students crave their path? is it that easy to get a residence permit? work permit? i was even told they get these so easily and then they become nationals of that country in a few years time and once nationals they can travel to the UK and get settled here . I am keen to know the truth behind this .
Yes, they got residency plus job too. No one of them are interested to go to UK. I think they love Sweden and yes they do travel but for the sake of enjoyment. I will let you know what is the current admission policy. Again, getting admission in those universities is peace of cake in comparison to US universities.
STA is right, the Golden Years are over. But even after adding those new fees, higher education in Europe is still cheaper than elsewhere.
The real issue however is the lack of study programs in English language. Most European countries still expect the vast majority of their students to study in local language, ie German, French, Spanish, etc. There are a few English study programs in almost every country and quite a lot of them in Scandivania. But the demand for those programs is far higher than that.
Yeah, living here they'd want to move to Britain, however we're talking about students who manage to land citizenship or residence elsewhere in Europe. Why would they move to Britain and start a new immigration process.
PS: I'm in Pakistan, so I don't need to ask them, they ramble about it(emigrating) anyway.
Saeed , they do it coz firstly no language barrier in the UK, more job opportunities .. once they have citizenship of a EU country they dont really need to go through hefty immigration process ..
But i still cant believe that it can be that easy a route for people to come into the UK ..
The golden time has ended in the UK,students were allowed to work for 6 hours or so but now it’s fully banned, they cn’t work at all. It’s like a big No now and I am sure you must be aware of the recent issue which London metropolitan university is facing regarding foreign students.
I saw this link posted at one of my friend’s fb profile he is on student visa in the UK.
