wouldnt that change the entire discusiion, if eople have responded to you and the discussion goes to 15 pages and the you go edit the basic post that was the basis for much of the discussion?

no I usually edit my typos! Plus its pointless to edit something somebody has quoted. But for other purposes - some posts need to be edited. Plus does it really matter once the thread is no longer up and being discussed.
Come on! We need the edit button! I'll help you get that car ,change the rules. :p

1) typos editing is one thing but if you are going back to edit your typos 3 weeks later, does it really even make a difference
2) some posts need to be edited, but again, if editing is going to impact the rest of the discussion and leave a gaping hole then it is counter productive
3) once a thread is no longer up and being discussed,
a) it still may matter because the thread may be reviv
b) if the other opposite is true that it will never again come up, then what does editing do.
I cant change the rules as I am not a GS mod or admin, I was just throwing in my 2 cents as a member.

Oh editing because some people might search for posts by me. I mean I might wish to rethink what Ive posted! Alright but come on mods/admins this needs to be changed/1

Is one not responsible for his or her words? philosophically speaking.
There have been cases in past where some person has asked that their posts be deleted because their husband, or mother or someone knows they post.
isn't hiding something like this being untrue to yourself, either be discreet and dont get in a situation where people will find out you post here, or be watchful and dont post anything that will create a rift between yourself and someone in your life, or take a stand for what you believe in and state.
I know a philosophical lecture is not what you are looking for, but I could not resist.

Fraudia jee -- My baba jaan does in fact know of gs.So do my siblings, my ammi couldnt care less. They all think Im wasting my time here. Esp my father. Its not that. I dont mind my family seeing what I post, because what I post is what I believe in.
Plus if I want to edit something, its not harming anybody else. And if leaving it can harm me, then I wish to prevent that. Im responsible for not just my words but my actions. Which is why I would take responsiblity and edit.
And its interesting that you know of all those people who wished to have their posts removed.
There might be some other people who might want to see certain posts that "I" dont want them to see.
Philosophically speaking I have a right over that.

Many people at GS talk to me about whats on their mind, as far as people who wanted their posts removed, there were 2. and the issue in both cases was potential issues with family members.
How would certain other people know where you post?
this is a public bulletin board, not a private journal, something shared once with public is out in the public.
Now, GS may empathize and allow you the ability to go change your own words written previosuly due tp fears that others may read them, but they would be doing you a favour.
My advice, dont write soemthing on a public bulletin board that you would be embarassed or uncomfortable about. Or... hide your true identity well so no one knows what nick you post with :)

You have your edit button but only for 24 hours. After that you can contact the relevant mod. Fraudia is right, going back and editing your post when the discussion has moved on might be unfair to the posters who had replied to that particular post. :)

I am sure the mods will take the appropriate action. If you are not satisfied you are more than welcome to contact either myself or one of the other admins. But do contact the mods first.
