7,000 volunteer to help Edhi in Iraq

KARACHI: More than 7,000 persons have offered their services as volunteers to the Edhi Foundation for war-torn Iraq, the foundation’s spokesman Anwer Kazmi told Daily Times on Thursday.
“We have received more than 7,000 applications from across Pakistan and more are pouring in,” Kazmi said.
More than 1,500 applicants are from Karachi alone, he added.
The Edhi Foundation had recently advertised the need volunteers for Iraq. So far, about 10,000 application forms have been distributed across the country.
“We have received permission from the Iraqi authorities for humanitarian activities and the Iranian government has also allowed our vehicles to drive through their country carrying volunteers to Iraq,” Kazmi said.
The foundation was still waiting for formal permission from the Pakistan government, he added.
He said 12 Edhi Trust vehicles carrying life-saving drugs had already left for Baghdad and would reach there in a few days.
