Edhi is one of the best human beings. Our city is blessed with his presence. He has not only helped Karachi, but the whole country. He is a true patriot. Here is a man who does justice to his attire, his beard, and his way of life.
Reported in Khabrain (February 28, 2006) Pakistan’s foremost philanthropist Abdus Sattar Edhi refused to accept Rs 21 million for building a mosque in Edhi Centre in Karachi. The money was offered by a gentleman from Islamabad. Edhi told him that he was not in favour of building mosques with public welfare money as mosques inclined people to fight on the basis of quarrels started by the clergy. The donor from Islamabad agreed. After this Edhi gave him the account number of his Foundation.
Edhi has never built a mosque for very obvious reasons. In Karachi 100 mosques are locked up because they are disputed, and there are hundreds of others that have been grabbed by clerical groups. The Eid Milad massacre of Nishtar Park was a consequence of that. *

Edhi is good person but to refuse building a mosque is insane. He could've made a difference by preaching to avoid no-discrimination, no-sectarianism etc. Just by blaming the mosque for "sectarianism" and to be against building of one is sheer stupidity IMO.

Edhi is my hero. I have tremendous respect for that man. He deserves a noble peace prize. Pakistan would have bled to death if Edhi wasnt there as a medic. He is a true saint.

What I meant to say is that he could've searched for a scholar/molvi who doesn't preach hatred and let him lead the mosque, there are tons of such people. Atleast in Tableeghi jamaat there can be found many, they don't preach hatred against any sect.

Very good... Whether or not refusal to build a Mosque is good or bad, I respect his Kutsba... Most people build it for self promotion, Edhi saab does no such thing, he speaks his mind, and he is honest... We dont need more mosques to cause more fighting when that money could be better spent on funding health care and education etc for poor families.
