Edhi has been given the prestigious Balzan prize for “Humanity, Peace and Brotherhood among peoples” today in Rome. I was at the award ceremony and had the pleasure of meeting him and some members of his family. You can read more about this at the website of the Balzan foundation http://www.balzan.it/english/balzan7.htm
It was mentioned several times that in the year of the jubilee of the catholic church, here in Rome, the prize was given to a muslim, a sign of goodwill, sharply in contrast with some recent events in Italy.
Edhi saheb and his family all struck me as being simple, sincere and special people.
It must be a great honor for u to meet such a great person. To me he is one of the true servant of Islam and Mankind.
I feel that I've been so tied up with work and life, and from inside i'm not happy as I'm still missing the constituent part of my life which is "service and voluntary work of the community, society and ummah" I hope soon I'll be able to gather enough courage to take on with this challenge and work for the betterment of society.
Thanx for sharing this important information with us.
I am glad to hear Mr.Edhi got the Balzan prize…he deserved it without a doubt. I also had the pleasure to meet Mr.Edhi back in June…extemely soft spoken, humble, and down to earth personality.I was actually influenced by his speech at this seminar, after which i decided to help some charitable organizations…and ended up with this big brother organization.

SubhanAllah, a wonderful piece of news to hear. And Mohteram Abdul Sattar Edhi deserves it more than anyone else. His charitable donations and true intentions towards general humanity are a great blessing for Pakistan.
And well-deserved it is! I have met Edhi sahib and he is a simple yet inspiring man whose whole life has been devoted to the good of humanity wherever he has travelled.

Well, I didn't mean that. First of all there is no muslim scientist from Pakistan who has ever won a Nobel prize. And Dr. Abdus Salam never came back to pakistan because he was Ahmadi and was not recognized in Pakistan. Infact few year back in Punjab University Convocation Dr. Salam was suppose to be the cheif guest but since he was Ahmadi there was a huge arrugment and finally some one from Bholoo Palwans family was made the chief guest (I'm not kidding).
I know there is a an Egyptian Muslim scientist who has won Nobel prize, but the Problem is that the commitee that selects people for Nobel prize, are mostly jewish and its is impossible for a Muslim scietist to get a nobel prize.
Thats what I meant when I said earlier that Muslim cannot get a nobel prize.
Any ways, It really doesn't matter if Edhi gets a nobel prize or not. He is still going to work with full devotion, thats what he cares about.

What are you talkin about...It does'nt actually matter whether Abdus Salaam came back to Pakistan or not. He was a Pakistani, and the fact that he was the Ahmedi doesn't really matter 'cause Ahmedism is considered as a sect of our religion everywhere in the world.
How come u are sayin that it is impossible for a Muslim to get a Nobel prize when two Muslims have recieved Nobels...
dr. who,
I have to be the one to inform you that ahmadism, is not considered a sect of Islam, everywhere in the world
Actually they are considered non-muslims, by the majority of muslims

You said it correctly ... "community, society and ummah". Most don't recognize that community service is part of Islam.... My perspective is the U.S. for the most part.
Kaka Malang: My hat's off to you.
We need more of your type of people in the world. Mr. Edhi is not only helping people but he is also helping the world by getting people like you to rise up and make a difference in a few people's lives.
Any work and any efforts must start from home first.
