Eczema in children

Does anyone have any natural treatments for kids with eczema that don’t involve prescription ointments or strong creams?

I am talking about kids as little 2-3 years old.

My 2 year old nephew has it and 3 year old niece as well…I’ve tried coconut oil and it does work really well but only temporarily.

Re: Eczema in children

My daughter has it too. We are using Cetaphil eczema body wash, and moisturizure recommended by her doctor and it seems to be working fine.

My nephew has the worst kind. He had to use steroids and all too but ultimately cetaphil (sp) seemed to work fine

Re: Eczema in children

I used to suffer from a stubborn type of eczema and nothing helped in long term. One thing that worked and made my problem disappear was tibb-e-nabwi ( peace be upon him)
I used crushed nigella seeds (kalonji) mixed in olive oil and applied that on my skin.
I highly recommend reciting durood shareef while doing anything from tibb-e-nabwi (peace be upon him)

Re: Eczema in children

Really?

So was this used a moisturizer or before a shower? Was there a strong scent? Olive oil is also drying isn’t it?

Re: Eczema in children

I had a bout with eczema, on my arms. Betnovate worked for me.

Re: Eczema in children

Reha, I give her shower with cetaphil body wash only. its on sale at target $11.99. I make sure moisturize her skin with cetaphil moisturizer for eczema after shower. oh and its scent free.

Re: Eczema in children

my daughter used to have I used mustela milky bath oil, used to add this in her bathing water it took few months n then finished completly

Re: Eczema in children

My son has a patch on his leg :frowning: The skin gets really thick and rough when it flares up.
Thanks for the suggestions. Right now we’re just using Eucerin every day and hydrocortisone when it gets worse.

Re: Eczema in children

I had this patch on my hand and I used to apply kalonji & olive oil and do a bandage over it for some hours… Worked for me.
We have some acquaintances living in the UK, their child had some strange skin problems from birth. They applied whatever they got a prescription of, including steroids. In the end this kalonji+ olive oil helped them. The baby just turned 1 and is doing fine, alhamdulillah.
I have found tibb-e-nabwi (peace be upon him) very beneficial for whatever I tried it for. I’m a firm believer of it.

Re: Eczema in children

Thanks guys for suggestions.

Her tummy still has roughness on it and she scratches like crazyyyy when she’s irritated. Nephew is similar but his is on his cheeks and legs.

same - I think she’s using cetaphil right now and it has helped quite a bit. Used to be much more.

I am wondering if there’s anything natural we can use to help her skin feel less irritated.

Afia - I’ll try that and see how it works for her.

Re: Eczema in children

There are oatmeal treatments to put in bath water, seem to help my daughter and also the key is to moisturize frequently. I put eczema friendly body lotion on her 3 times a day.

Re: Eczema in children

I don’t know if you guys have heard of this…but bleach baths are the most effective at treating medium to extreme cases of eczema. You basically fill up the bathtub all the way with warm water and add about 1/4 to 1/2 cup of bleach in it…dilute it well, mix it around and sit the child in it. Once done, you pat their skin dry and moisturize generously. In the study that was testing this, it was so effective that half-way thru they stopped and gave the same treatment to the control group. It’s basically like jumping into a chlorine-water pool. Obvs ask your doctor about it…but my friend’s son had an extreme case of eczema and he is mashAllah a million times better now. He had it all over his body and now just occasionally gets a small patch on his arm. And Cetaphil is also very popular in helping treat it.

Re: Eczema in children

Are you talking about the bleach used in washing clothes?

Re: Eczema in children

Well I’ll be darned! I’ve never heard of this..just did a quick google search and found all these articles and studies on it! Thanks for the tip

Re: Eczema in children

And Cetaphil is really good, I agree. My eldest has slight flare ups of dry patchy spots on this face and sometimes his back. He only uses Cetaphil shower soap now and Cetaphil lotion and it helps alot.

Re: Eczema in children

Has anyone used CeraVe for eczema? How is it?
Someone told me about it.I might get either one of Cetaphil or CeraVe for my daughter’s and my own eczema.

Re: Eczema in children

I hate smell of cetaphil, mustela steylothopia works great n smells awsum

The bleach bath sounds soo lookin but I think I’m gonna try it for myself.

The kalonji and olive oil sounds good too so will let you guys know.

Desitin multipurpose ointment worked for my girls. I even use it on me. Coconut oil is the best and I would mix coconut oil with desitin. Apply while they are sleeping. It really really helps.

Yup, plain old Clorox bleach. If you are doing this with a small child, u have to watch so they don’t ingest the water…but yeah…def ask ur doc and give it a shot.
