Economics majors

Any of you economis majors in undergrad or grad? I might do a grad program in economics. Not sure yet though. Probably a masters. I have seen the acceptance rates for grad programs and they r very low. Maybe they r better for a master’s program. I am not extremely into economics but have a little interest especially in developmental, financial, and public goods economics. I am well aware that the mathematical sophistication in a grad program will be much higher than ugrad. Our dept only requires calc 1 but i’ve taken calc 2 and am taking linear algebra now. And a stat course. Should have taken calc 3. Well if it helps my current school has been ranked in the low to mid 20s for US econ grad programs. Also I haven’t done extremely well in undergrad. I would probably apply to a lower tier school. Haven’t taken the GRE’s. If I do this I may still pursue an MBA or just take an econ/finance job. I’m not a very aggressive person as needed for business and I’m not a brainiac as needed for econ but I can make it. I’m interested mainly in investments as far as business goes. Advice?

^ based on what you have written above. I would recommend you forgo your econ degree, in favor of a baking degree. Less stress, less work. Right up your ally.

Good luck :k:

CH I realize you are too bright and intelligent a person to have posted that just to ridicule vivek. Are you saying there is more money in baking?

Graduate school is about specialization. It is not done for wasting time and money and whims of interests. That was my point.

Vivek seems unsure about what he wants. And making money is not the only consideration. he doesn;t like the concept of ambition, high pressure jobs etc. So he could do something in economics and teach high-school or find somehting like baking (or whatever else) he is interested in.

Ahhha see I was right about you been bright. Now if only you had posted it that way it would have made a lot more sense the first time.

Vivek Investment banking is one of the more demanding fields and if you are unsure about things the best way to get a feel for what you like or dont is to work. Doing a job you are apt to see the things that interest you more then others and combining that with your goals in life you can get a better feel for your interests.

If you dont like a field of work it is very hard to be really good at it. A few years of work experience aslo helps when you finish your graduate studies since it makes it easier to get a job.

Vivek, I have my undergrad degree in Econ. :k:

vivek economics is dryyyyyy.

whoa it took some time to get the replies. too bad cafe has the most
replies per minute, hour etc considering the pure drivel posted there. I
swear I could be like my favorite color is blue and get 20 replies within
an hour of posting.

CH-Haha, I much prefer eating. Cooking is for those with lots of free
time and initiative. At first I read banking hehe. Oh and save the
antics for general.

I meant investments more as in equity research. I-banking works u way too
hard. I might consider being an FA if the self-marketing isn't very high.
U r an I-banker I understand?

Moona can u expand?

I think an MS in econ would be good for equity research. Pus MBA just as a degree in general.
