Actually, a pig is a very intelligent animal and also one of the cleaner ones. It is one of the few animals that always uses the toilet in the same place. Many people in the world keep small pigs as indoor pets!
The US supply of pig meat products is fully inspected by the FDA. It is just as safe as any other meat product. It is perhaps safer than seafood.
Not eating pig meat by Muslims has little to do with people getting sick or it being an unclean animal. It is illogical to do that since millions of people consume it without any unusual problems. It only has to do with a 7th century concept that is considered a guidance from God himself. So the followers of certain religions don't eat this meat to please a God based upon BLIND faith.
