Eating sleeping habits of one year old....

So I took my son to his one year physical exam and doctor seemed shocked when I told her that he still wakes up at night atleast once sometimes twice for his bottle…
she said he doesnot need it anymore, he doesnt even need a going to sleep bottle anymore and we should be stopping it. and just have him let it cry out… and we shouldnt even be using bottles at all now he should be on sippy cup now…

My son used to sleep in his crib by himself but at 10months old I took him overseas for few weeks and he was sleeping with me on the bed. now since we got back he does not go to sleep on his own at night (he does during the day in day care)
He sleeps with me on the bed and when he is fast asleep i put him in his crib. then same thing at night when he wakes up for bottle…

I once tried letting him cry to sleep on his own but he kept crying, it just started getting louder and louder and he seemed sooo sad and after 15 minutes i just could not take it…
Doctor said that its ok even if he cries for an hour, i just have to let him and he will be fine it would just clear out his lungs…
has anyone tried this? one way i feel i should try but on another side i just cant watch or hear him crying…
he is a good baby overall, he wouldnt cry unless its something like a dirty diaper or hunger… he plays by himself during the day… etc…

Thanks,

Sanna

My boys doc told me the same thing, like you're doing permanent damage to a child if you let them sleep in mom and dads bed. The docs never had a satisfactory answer for me when I ask why are you so against this. So I finally just told the doc that they sleep in their own bed just to shut 'em up. If you, your hubby and your child like your sleeping arrangements then dont change them!

I can see their point about giving up the bottle though. Its bad for little teeth to drink at night, milk or juice can pool in their mouth and actually cause tooth rot. Its also important for oral-motor development that they learn to drink from straw and cup. My middle son was so very attached to his bottle. We had such a tough time getting him to give it up. We ended up giving him cups and straws and one bottle a day - and this was until he was almost 3 lol! And I sincerely doubt that he's damaged for life over it!

Moms know whats best for their kids...docs forget this sometimes.
