Eating Healthy at a Restaurant

When going out with friends one of the hardest things to do is to control the calories.

I eat out 3 times minimum with friends.

What are some tips for eating healthy apart from ordering a salad?

Re: Eating Healthy at a Restaurant

Stick to the popaddoms only :omg: … thats what a friend did when she was on a diet …

Re: Eating Healthy at a Restaurant

portion control..try ordering baked items instead of fried.. and dont eat your friends food.

Re: Eating Healthy at a Restaurant

My technique would be to share with friends, so I don't eat a whole portion.

Re: Eating Healthy at a Restaurant

1) When ordering salad, tell them no dressing on it....but get oil/ving. on the side.
2) Stick with grilled or baked items.
3) Instead of "sides" they give you....ask for veggies.
4) Don't munch on the "free" stuff they give you..(which is usually bread).
5) Split entree with friend whenever possible.
6) Stick with water. Many of the "drinks" (fruity, colorful ones especially), have a lot of calories in it.
7) Skip dessert UNLESS its a special occassion.

Re: Eating Healthy at a Restaurant

I'd stop eating out so much and save the monies for shoes instead. Food can be so overrated sometimes!

Or you could just listen to Peheli. No.6 makes sense. No.7, if you don't eat a starter or a main, you can have dessert right?

Re: Eating Healthy at a Restaurant

i think for me social life > shoes, although it does cost alot yes!

Paheli you talk sense.

My one weakness is Bread and butter for free :( the only time i eat carbs

Re: Eating Healthy at a Restaurant

people have three courses! i only ever have one and sometimes a spoonfull or two of someone else's dessert.

Re: Eating Healthy at a Restaurant

Bread is a major weakness of mine too. :( 2 more tips I forgot to write earlier:

1) Don't eat until you feel stuffed. STOP eating when you feel about 80% full.

2) Before you start eating anything at all.....drink a glass of water. This will make your brain think that your stomach is full (and you will also feel a bit full)....but when the food gets there....you don't eat as much. Splitting the entree with a friend makes great sense in this case....OR take the leftovers "to go".

Re: Eating Healthy at a Restaurant

You can have whatever you want....but dessert on its own is not healthy. They're generally loaded with calories & sugar. Even if you skip a "proper meal" and just have dessert....you're still putting unhealthy stuff in your body.

I see nothing wrong with indulging now and then.....especially on special occassions. But lately....if I crave something "sweet"....I munch on fruits at home. Orange, strawberried, grapes, raspberries etc............instead of eating ice cream or chocolate or other "crap"....anything I crave anything "sweet"...especially at home......I munch on fruits.

Re: Eating Healthy at a Restaurant

Oh dear, I so did not know that desserts on their own were unhealthy. Sad face and slap on the wrist for me!

Re: Eating Healthy at a Restaurant

Divide the food you order into 5 portions and get four of them packed as take home, eat only one portion of that food.

Re: Eating Healthy at a Restaurant

How about you exercise as much as you eat. Balance it out. :p

Re: Eating Healthy at a Restaurant

CEO excercising intensely everyday is really hard! id rather eat less.

Re: Eating Healthy at a Restaurant

weakling :p

Re: Eating Healthy at a Restaurant

Nah just love my life more than exercise!

Re: Eating Healthy at a Restaurant

If you love your life you would exercise more.

But on a serious note...you should eat more grilled foods with vegs on side. As some people have suggested. :)

Re: Eating Healthy at a Restaurant

dude excercising once a day is enough!

I think portion control and avoiding the free bread!

I always order healthy food but I eat all of it! and I get lost in convo and nibble on bread without noticing!

Re: Eating Healthy at a Restaurant

its not in the interest of the restuarant to provide you with healthy options as these are not the best tasting foods... people will go somewhere else to eat.

Re: Eating Healthy at a Restaurant

not true - restaurants always grill food when I ask them too, and change sides for salads from nandos to posh nosh!
