EATING AS A FAMILY

Ok so how much importance do other Guppies attach to eating dinner together as a family…?

In my family, it’s difficult to achieve this every day as each has his/her own work, study or other commitments to attend to.

However, during Ramzaan we all made a concerted effort to be home in time for Iftaar every day. It made such a difference, we actually sat together as a family, got to speak to one another and share thoughts and ideas.

I feel it brought us much closer together and I really enjoyed being around my parents and siblings. I feel it’s important to at least try to have one meal together as a family every day.

What are other Guppies’ opinions on this?

Re: EATING AS A FAMILY

i think that is the key to a family unity

Re: EATING AS A FAMILY

It's a lovely experience, highly recommended.

For those of you who are not married and have families, make a habit of eating in your kitchen with your boyfriend/girlfriend.

Re: EATING AS A FAMILY

I hope I can achieve this with my family inshAllah

Re: EATING AS A FAMILY

we do it every single day for our evening meal
:)
just about everyone is always there, dad or bro may be late or still on their way but the rest of us will eat together
and yeah it is good, you can talk and chat about ur day or just generally see each others faces otherwise we'd never even see each other so busy in our day to day lives

Re: EATING AS A FAMILY

it is something i wud luv to b a part of my family:)

Re: EATING AS A FAMILY

Wow thumbs up to you guys :)

I really hope that when I have a family of my own Insha'Allah I will inspire this kind of unity...

Re: EATING AS A FAMILY

we've been doing it every day for as long as i could remember.. and that goes to like form the age of 5 (i cant remember before that)... and my hubby's family is the same... we all sit and eat together... and we're most likely going to keep this tradition..

its the only time u actually get to sit as a family.. even if u dont speak, at least ur together :)

Re: EATING AS A FAMILY

Alhamdulillah we all like to sit and eat together as well. If one of the siblings or Abbu is running late from work/school etc, we will rather wait a reasonable amount of time. It gives us a chance to share ideas, talk about our day and discuss any pending stuff that needs to be done.

Re: EATING AS A FAMILY

We all (family members) are so busy in our lives that we hardly get to eat together. It only happens when theres a guest over in our house or in ramadan( and that is only on saturdays or sundays). Even if we end up eating together, we usually all end up having arguments, which pisses my mum off.

Re: EATING AS A FAMILY

Jee, I dunno. Why don’t you ask them?

:omg: HAHAHHHAHAHHA sorry I just couldn’t resist. ohh man. Good one, phati. pats herself on the back

Re: EATING AS A FAMILY

i think it,s the best thing in the world actually.

Re: EATING AS A FAMILY

When I was in Pakistan, we all used to have at least dinner together everyday. We were very flexible with our dinner timings just to accommodate everyone. That used to give us a good family time together. We used to discuss everything from sports to politics, fashion to functions, family to friends and anything that someone wants to share specially next day’s schedule.

Here in US, my kids are too young to wait but I and my wife always have dinner together.

Re: EATING AS A FAMILY

We always have dinner together. We eat early as soon as my husband comes home to accomodate the kids and everyone. We have always eaten dinner together since my oldest was old enough to sit in a high chair at the table. We miss this maybe 3-4 times a month.

Everyone gets a turn to say one good thing that happened to them during the day. It's a chance to get my kids to open up about school. We also have this fun box of questions that we pull out if someone's had a really bad day or if the weather is miserable.

We also have Sunday lunch together with everyone. This is a tradition I brought from my family. My kids know that the only excuse for missing Sunday lunch involves hospitalization :).

Our favorite tradition though is family game night. It used to be once a week, but during basketball season it's every other week. Everyone has to stay at home, and we play board games, cards, eat popcorn, watch a movie on the projector, and have a great time. Occasionally my kids will invite friends over, so it's also a good way to keep track of who they're friends are. (sneaky mom....;))

Re: EATING AS A FAMILY

^^^^^ ma shallah dats very good.
since its just me and ma parents dinner is usually us together, but den ma bro, his wife, ma sis, bro-in-law and kids sumtimes come round either on a sun or on eid and we all av dinner togther, which is very nice. its also a good way of showing the kids in the family how important family is.

Re: EATING AS A FAMILY

Maash'Allah amana I have to say I absolutely love the way you are with your family :) This is exactly the kind of thing I aspire to achieve on day Insha'Allah.

I believe it's never to early to start to teach or learn social skills...and the dinner table is a great place to start...I like your ideas of helping to encourage communication by allowing everyone their one minute (or more) to talk about themselves and what's on their mind.

I am so looking forward to Insha'Allah having a family of my own one day, and I can't wait to share these things with my children. My friends and family laugh at me because they think I'm gonna be the kinda mom who'll take the kids out on field trips and 'expeditions' with notebooks and cucumber sandwiches in tow...but I think it's lovely to spend time together as a family and learn about the world and each other together :)
