eating and drinking in

Pakistan. I’m going to the village so i wanted to be sure about a few things. (For my children)
I’ve read that tap water must be boiled and you shouldnt drink unpasteurised milk.
Does this include the fresh water from wells?
And is it OK to drink buffalo milk if you boil it first?

yes yes boil water and milk that you drink, other than enjoy the village food. I am carving for some peanuts, ghee, butter, achar, tandori roti, desi murgh, fresh veggi, daalain and much more from our villages. yes we have many villages:p

Guess my old nick.
mehros ?

I think its better to get bottled water. Nestle is pretty good. I have seen it in very remote areas so you should be ok finding it.
You can get pasteurized milk as well in packs. Again, nestle makes it also but there are few other really good brands. I wouldnt go for fresh milk or water from wells (even boiling), especially for kids, too risky. Also, be sure to get the twinrix vaccine for Hepatitus A/b, also get the one for typhoid. Kids catch that easily there. Good luck.

Re: eating and drinking in

Boil the water? and wells? Bibi jee, what village are you going to?

In addition to Tube Wells and regular Wells, villages now have electricity and they use that electricity to pull fresh water out of earth with the help of elctronic motors. That water is fresh, pure, and sweet. I never boiled the water everytime I went to visit the village and I am perfectly fine. As a matter of fact, that water is better than water from city because city water is contaminated as most of the cities get water from rivers or canals (although purified) in addition to electric motors. Same goes for milk. It has no chemicals in it as it comes right out of cow or buffalo’s breast, therefore that is fresh as well.

So in conclusion, in my opinion, you really don’t have to boil water and milk, unless you want to make yourself feel better or safer. Boiled water or milk is always better but it has nothing to do with being from village or city. As a matter of fact, food etc. in village are fresher.

If u dont want to see ur kids suffer from terrible stomach probs then i urge u to only let them drink bottled water (as Strongman says Nestles is good and widely available).

Personally, I avoid tap water and most food that has been cooked outdoors (dhay ballay etc) even tho it is tempting when in Pak.

I used to eat anything and everything but often paid a high price for it - serious stomach probs and vomitting cos my system wasnt used to the bugs etc.

Food cooked properly at home should be fine - I think the meat/chicken is better in pak than in the west esp in the villages where they tend to look after their animals properly and feed them the things they are supposed to eat instead of high protein, instant fattening meat based products u get over here.

Hope it all goes well inshallah.

Re: eating and drinking in

make sure u only drink buffalo’s milk…in pakistan people sell bull’s milk disguised as buffalo’s milk..:jhanda:

For kids, definitely boil the water and milk. :flower1:
