Eat your greens....not not. Hunder 'alarming' in India.

I have often praised India’s progress on the economic front, but its myriad problems across social factors leave it way short of what many patriotic Indians like to pretend. It has poverty and disease far worse then any regional nation, as stated by the Encyclopedia Britannica no less.

This article from the BBC, is striking.

BBC NEWS | World | South Asia | Hunger in India states ‘alarming’

" India has more people suffering hunger - a figure above 200 million - than any other country in the world, it says. "

I thought this was important. Apparently, so did the BBC. GS disagrees.

One thing about indians is, that they are too proud to admit this fact. Or they passively mention it as saying, o well look at the 200 million people who CAN eat in india.

Its almost chilling and I personally wish I could do something about it. I am very passionate about this stuff. One day I can make a difference maybe. :(

Over half of the world's absolute poor (below $1/day) live in India. There growth is not trickling down.

India need to grow at more than 10% for next twenty years before we can see some trickling down effect. After liberaisation we had some modest growth rate of 4 % till 1999 and then to 5- 6% till 2003 and then onwards till last year around 8-9 %.

We all support the eradication of all poverty. The issue is the common denial of many Indians.

Eradication is a big world. I dont think even the industrial nations managed to eradicate poverty. What we can do is to bring it down. In such big diverse country with large population its impossible to eradicate. You can only bring it down.

Re: Eat your greens....not not. Hunder 'alarming' in India.

I havent thought that far ahead about my life. But certainly not more then 2.

It's not anyones business to tell parents how many children they can have. India is the biggest democracy in the World it is not communist China.

How about just one since you are proposing for others to have one child.
