WOMEN who munched on chocolate while they were pregnant gave birth to happier babies, according to a new study. University of Helsinki researcher Katri Raikkonen and colleagues enrolled more than 300 pregnant women and asked them to rate their stress levels and chocolate consumption.
Six months after their child was born, the mothers were asked to gauge their child’s behaviour in such fear, soothability, smiling and laughter.
“The babies born to women who had been eating chocolate daily during pregnancy were more active and ‘positively reactive’ - a measure that encompasses traits such as smiling and laughter,” New Scientist says.
I had a feeling it this is going to go down well the Ladies. It is really intresting how females everywhere like choclate. Does anyone know of any reserch that explains what is it in choclate that goes so well with the ladies...
Well, that study sure made sense to me!! I love to eat but I really never want sweets & chocolate, I'd rather eat steak n potatoes. But when I was carrying my babies, I HAD to have some chocolate each and every day or ELSE!!! As soon as each baby was born, that need for chocolate went away, but all 3 of my boys are the happiest little guys!
I read somewhere that eating chocolate stimulates the same area of the brain that opiates do so it brings an extra sense of pleasure.
Well, chocolate contains magnesium, which is low in women before menstruation. Of course, lots of foods contain magnesium, so it certainly isn’t the only reason.
I think the main reason is that chocolate has a chemical that initiates the release of dopamine, causing a natural high. This is also released during orgasm.
(It also is thought to have the same active chemicals as marijuana.)
Well balanced if yer butt is begging to get ballooned out of proportion..But I am always willing to take that risk..anything chocolatey is always a part of my healhty breakfast/lunch/dinner.
