Its a chain reaction thing. You have one superstar in your country and every kid idolizes him/her and wants to be like him/her. Before long you have 5 superstars and now 5 idols for 5 times as many kids. And so on and so forth.
Pakistan produces amazing fast bowlers in cricket because pakistani kids have had role models / idols. India on the other hand cannot produce a bowler who can bowl faster than Pakistan's slower bowlers. This is because they dont have any fast bowling superstar. They on the other hand keep on producing batsmen after solid batsmen because they have always had some superstar or the other in the batting department.
Same could be said for gymnasts in eastern europa.
This theory is probably not *entirely *true but does explain alot nontheless.
