Eastern Europeans and Gymnastics

Why are most gymnasts, dancers, ice skaters etc. etc. all from either Russia, Belarus, Romania, Bulgaria, Latvia, Lithuania or one of those Eastern european countries? they are so long and lithe and elegant … but why do they focus so much on these sports?

Re: Eastern Europeans and Gymnastics

ice skating has to be the gayest sport of all time..

Re: Eastern Europeans and Gymnastics

I wouldn't be calling it gay if I were you. Those skaters are sheer muscle, strength and flexibility all in one - real sportsmen/women.

Re: Eastern Europeans and Gymnastics

It's probably because they can't play football very well. I love those little gymnasts (sp) though, so very prim and proper, but they almost never smile and most of them looked so depressed you just want to hug them and give them some roti.

Re: Eastern Europeans and Gymnastics

^ lol hug them and give them some roti? i guess they are missing out eh!!

Re: Eastern Europeans and Gymnastics

well umm cos if desi women entered, they,d break the freakin apparatus trying to do a backflip. And we dont want that now do we?

Re: Eastern Europeans and Gymnastics

Catwoman, read up on Nancy Kerrigan and Michelle Kwan.

Re: Eastern Europeans and Gymnastics

I was a gymnast when I was younger. I had this really tough Romanian coach. She made some girls cry a few times. It was like being in the military.

Re: Eastern Europeans and Gymnastics

Its a chain reaction thing. You have one superstar in your country and every kid idolizes him/her and wants to be like him/her. Before long you have 5 superstars and now 5 idols for 5 times as many kids. And so on and so forth.

Pakistan produces amazing fast bowlers in cricket because pakistani kids have had role models / idols. India on the other hand cannot produce a bowler who can bowl faster than Pakistan's slower bowlers. This is because they dont have any fast bowling superstar. They on the other hand keep on producing batsmen after solid batsmen because they have always had some superstar or the other in the batting department.

Same could be said for gymnasts in eastern europa.

This theory is probably not *entirely *true but does explain alot nontheless.

Captain Lota

Re: Eastern Europeans and Gymnastics

Well its :topic: but in the clippings of the Indian movie ‘Kisna’ I wa surprised to see the flexibility in doing some steps of classical dance similar to the ballerina and western gymnastics by an Indian lady. Classic blending of east and west.

Re: Eastern Europeans and Gymnastics

I remember meeting a woman who went to school in Russia. She claimed that in Russia there is a strong emphasis on gymnastics. Its done as part of school activities. Kinda like how cricket is really big in Pakistan. Everyone is taught how to do it usually, since its school curriculum.

I also know someone from Poland, and she was a gymnist until she had a knee injury. She also says that its a big part of their schooling curriculum. Here in America, we're required to do P.E. at the most. Doing anything more than jumping jacks and the mile run is beyond us people.

Re: Eastern Europeans and Gymnastics

Nadia Comaneci...She's the most famous and I believe the most memorable of any gymnast...She is the Lady Diana of gymnastics...

Re: Eastern Europeans and Gymnastics

Lajawaab...I hope you dont watch scantily clad gymnasts gymnasting away

how very rude!

Re: Eastern Europeans and Gymnastics

Desis know about Nadia Apache because there was a movie made on her life and apparently it was very popular in pakistan in the 90s.
