Easter break

Easter weekend is approaching. I need some suggestions for any interesting places to visit within 50 miles radius of London.

Re: Easter break

Do u wanna go away for the whole easter break or just a day trip?

Re: Easter break

Either, unfortunately I have to be here on Saturday so cannot go away abroad...and besides I think I left it a bit late.

Re: Easter break

Well thinking of where we go for day trips (hubz and babe) we quite like going to Cambridge cos its not far on the M11 and they have loads of nice parks and the colleges r really nice to look at. Plus theres this fab turkish restaurant we like going to there!
We used to go to Canterbury as well. They’ve got a nice catherdral there and the shopping area is nice. Plus theres this brilliant morrocan place to eat as well. Ha ha as u can see we like a place if they’re decent food to eat aswell!
We didnt like Oxford tho…was boring.
Heck if u want a cheesy place to go to, u cant beat Southend if the weathers nice cos u can Fish and Chips and ice cream! See food rules where u go! Ha ha! :phati:

Re: Easter break

Cambridge and Oxford are I think more than 50 miles away. Southend on Sea sounds nice....I have never been there before. I don't fancy driving there though might just take a train there if I decide to go there. I think I need to do some bonding with my son. Might take him with me.

Re: Easter break

I would have suggested Verdon, France as its where i am going, but yeah Amani's recommendation of Cambridge is good.

Re: Easter break

I cant believe uve neva been to cheesy southend! Well theres loads for kids to do there. They have an aquarium which my daughter loves and theres a mini adventure place where they have rides and stuff. My little ones too young for the rides in the fun park bit. Its a good laugh tho. :)

Re: Easter break

I believe Southend on Sea is a good day out - when we were in London in 2003, we were advised to go to Southend on Sea...but as we had heard so much about Brighton, we went there instead - what a disappointment.....and a waste of train fare!!!!
So next trip we went to Southend and although cheesy like all british resorts - so much better than Brighton!!!!!!
The train journey is fine as long as it's running to time!!!!

Re: Easter break

I think you got me sold on Southend now! I have lived in London for about 15 years and I have not even seen all of London, there are so many interesting places here to see and visit. I think I am going to find out the timetable for the trains and select a day for the day trip. I hope the weather is nice. I might post some pics on GS.

Re: Easter break

Brighton is the preferred location. I have never been there either. I would have assumed that Brighton is better than Southend.

Re: Easter break

U get the train from Liverpool Street. Its pretty straight forward to drive to as well. Just the A127 all the way to Southend! Post sum pics for sure and enjoy!:)

Re: Easter break

Just checked and trains run from Fenchurch street to Southend East and Southend Central. From Liverpool Street they go to Southend Victoria.

Which is the closest train station to the Pier?

Re: Easter break

I think Southend central but im not 100% sure. I know southend victoria is quite far-well its a bit of a walk to the seaside. I think southend central wud b better cos hopefully it wud drop u off to the town centre which is only a 10 min walk from the seaside but find out for certain that southend central is actually for the town centre.
I dont think the piers open now cos it always seems to get closed after the summer cos of sum insurance job fire-its been burnt down so many times ive lost count.:phati:

Re: Easter break

I think I am going to Chessington World of Adventures instead tomorrow. On Monday I am hoping to maybe go to Hampton Court Palace.

Re: Easter break
