The 10-day Earth Summit (or World Summit on Sustainable Development) just wrapped up in one of the most beautiful places on Earth, Johannesburg in South Africa.

Another participant at the Earth Summit: “I am here with the Concerned Women’s Organization from Capetown. I am here to support sustainable development. I am here to support all the oppressed and the underprivileged and the poor people of the world. I am here to raise my voice, especially with the women of the world… It’s about time that we think. They don’t listen to us but we have to make them listen to us, because the world is getting bad worse, and we are going to decide now to take our stand. Our rightful stand. Just demand it.” (Greenpeace)
While several world leaders met at Johannesburg for the Summit to discuss environmental issues, President Bush decided not to. Greenpeace and another environmental organization, the Danish 92 Group, sent this postcard to the US President. (Greenpeace).
Greenpeace activists unfurled a banner with the motto “Climate change powered by BP, Esso, Shell” on Pasterze Glacier. The action was in protest against the climate-damaging policies of international oil companies. (Greenpeace, Juraj Rizman).
