Dying my hair

I have virgin hair that is very very dark and have always wanted to add some color to give it more depth and an illusion of thickness.

Anyway, I was thinking about going to a place and having it done but

  1. that’s expensive and
  2. I want to have it done before Eid but have it last for the wedding. No roots.
  3. Plus I want something very subtle. Just a slight red and brown highlight, nothing that looks unnatural and streaked.

So, I thought maybe I’ll get one of those do-it-yourself things now. I’ve seen them work and look fine on dark hair.

Any recommendations?

Do you want a total colour change or just random highlights through your hair? Whichever you decide upon, getting visible regrowth is going to be unavoidable but less noticable if you only have highlights.

You could try using one of the 'wash in - wash out' temporary hair dyes, that way you can have a change of hair colour which will last untill you next wash your hair.

Doing your own highlights at home is a bit more tricky though and really needs a second person to help.

I just want subtle highlights. I know they have those kits these days; I'm not sure how easy they are to use.

Last time I used one was back in the olden days when I was a poor student but I think the general principle is still the same.

Shampoo hair, cover your hair with a plastic cap which has holes punched in at regular intervals. Using the hook provided, draw up sections of hair through the holes. Once you have hooked out as much hair as you want to be highlighted, apply the dye solution. Leave on for however long the instructions specify, then wash and condition your hair.

best idea is use mehndi :D it rocks i've always used mehndi on my hair but for the fact that it's good for hair purposes never knew it was the type of a dye for hair until i had redish/brown hair :o

Sehar
in my opinion don't do the highlights yourself unless u have
someone helping u (like shehreen said and they really should know what
they are doing).

Secondly I think since it's kinda expensive u should wait till
your weddding to get the highlights or the roots always start
showing in about 4-6 weeks time.
When is the wedding?

sahar hun, i think ure gonna be better off usin a temp color liek shahreen said, even if it does get messed up, which it does sometimes, i have horror stories to share, it will get washed out.
n maybe around weddin time, u can get ur hair colored professionally. Thats what i did.. its a nice lil change trust me

One of my friends took me today to one of those hair academies that does it pretty cheap. I'm thinking about having them do it. It won't be anything drastic. Just a slight burgandy tone or something.

Sahar dont try it at home. You might ruin your locks... ahem and we cant have that happen.Go to a salon and get it done. That way its guranteed it'll be exactly how you want it.

I think you should go to a salon and get it professionally done, only because you don't want to mess up your hair. The few times I've coloured my hair on my own, it never turns out the colour I want it to be.

I'm the resident "blonde" here so I know what I'm talking about. :p
