DVD Repair

Not sure where to put it. Have your DVD player ever died on you? Not really died, I mean. But just that it doesn’t read any Discs. You power it on. Open up the disk-drive, pop in the DVD, it goes back in.. and whirls and whirls, showing “Disc Loading”. And then after about 10-15 secs says “No Disc”. :grumpy:

I have tried all different DVD’s. Same thing.

Does this sound like a problem which a DVD cleaner can fix? Everything is working (remote, displays, menus) except that it doesn’t read any discs. Before I chuck the whole thing into recycle bin, this is a last ditch effort to find if its fixable. The darn thing is only an year old. This is the end of my friendship with Korean gadgets. :nook:

Any solutions???

Merci

mine does it sometimes but then it's always me not putting the disk in correctly or the disk is a format it cannot read.. what brand is it?? see if it has a user group or a yahoo group.. and if it's a common problem.

Im assuming this is a multi-format player. Have you tried playing a vcd, or an audio or mp3 cd in it?

A head cleaner might make it run for a while, but very likely will be a temporary fix. My guess is the laser pickup has gone erratic on your player. If you have a warranty on it, you can probably get it exchanged....else, get a new one, since repair is out of the question.

The dvds you are trying to play, they arent burned, are they?

Yes, thats a good point. Let me try a VCD.

No, the DVD's are the normal type, rented in movie stores. Someone told me to open the cover and spray the cleaning fluid there, and it will fix it. I will try that. If it doesn't work, then probably getting a new one is the most viable option.

Just a final update on this. While browsing through Circuit City, I spotted a DVD Cleaner Disc. Cost me 12 bucks, and is good for 30 uses. The disc is specifically for DVD Players (and not to be used in Computer drives). The Disc has a small brush on the underside. Anyway, inserted the disc, it showed an on-screen menu… played the Cleaning bit for about 5-10 secs and the DVD player is now as good as new. Its playing everything again, like always. $12 well-spent. :k:

i'd sell it on ebay while it's still running..

I've got two at the moment a Sony and mini panasonic, lately the sony only plays DVD's and panasonic only VCD's. I tried the cleaning kit on both, nothing changed. So I use both unplugging and plugging in the S-Video cable is the only excercise I've been getting lately.
