Hoping you can help me figure out what’s going on. So, I have 3 dvds with data on them. But when i put them in my PC. My PC does not see any data on the disks. It sees the dvds as blank.
I used another PC, and the dvds read just fine on the other PC. What do you think could cause this? Just to rule out that it isn’t my optical drive. I tried another DVD and it reads just fine.
Those DVD’s are probably not “finalized” and your DVD being the excellent model it is, can see potential with those media and the blank space.
Try ISOBuster to recover stuff from it.
The other PC that does see the media and plays it is the HP laptop. Win 7 Home Prem (if that makes any diff). Tried to rip and burn fresh copies but unable to fully copy VIDEO_TS folder. It stops responding. But plays just fine.
Your DVD lens either needs cleaning or is exhausted. It may read some DVDs and may not read some.. It happens a lot with laptops but it does not mean it cannot happen with desktops.
So, grabbed a Sony dvd burner from microcenter. It read/ripped discs 2 and 3 successfully without any problems. Still struggling with Disc 1. It seems to keep reading, but never loads data.
Any other suggestions guys? My last ditch effort might be to have it done professionally. Not sure even if they can extract the data or burn a readable copy.
I think i had a similar prob with one of my cds. so basically when i enabled the recording (right click on cd via my computer and then go to recording and checking the enable recording box)…i was able to see my data. (i have xp not sure how u would access that on windows 7).
another thing could be that the disk isnot finalised and the reason you can see the data on it perfectly when you play it on your other pc is cause you made the disk with that pc (but didnot finalise it) so the files are temporarily stored in that pc’s dvd/cd folder…(it has happened to me where i didnot finalise the disk thus wasnot able to see anything on my other pc but it was fine on my first pc since temp files were still there on my pc and i thought they were on my cd).
finally if nothing works out then i’ll say just copy the data and transfer it on a new cd before the cd becomes unreadable on any of your pcz.
Why don’t u create an ISO of that DVD on a computer that can actually read stuff off it? Rather than keep buying different brands of burners. DVD players/burners are soon going to be extinct anyways.
Ok, so somehow, some way. I’m not exactly sure, but using ISOBuster i was able to extract the file labeled ‘Track01’ on the dvd. I extracted two copies. One has .ISO which is like 5.* GB and 4 other copies which are roughly .99GB each but they’re in .IBQ01/02, etc…format.
Now here’s the problem. ISO will NOT open. When i click to open it using MagicISO this is what I get “Can’t find file or file isn’t CD image file”
Also tried opening the ISO with winrar and it throws the same kinda error. ‘The archive is either in unknown format or damaged’
I’m almost through with trying to mess with it myself. Might just give it to professional video shop and them work on it. Maybe they can make me a new copy.
Well I’ve just dropped it off at a video place. They tried to play it, obviously it wouldn’t play. They say they’ve seen that before, and will take care of it and burn me a new copy.
