DVD based Camcorders

My experience with MiniDV’s has been disappointing. They are fussy and break easily. Picture quality goes down once you start reusing the tapes, you can’t play them directly into a VCR (like VHS-C), etc etc.

Anyway, so now I am thinkng of getting a DVD based Camcorder. And this time I am planning to stick with Sony.

One model that I am looking at is DCR-DVD101](http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_DisplayProductInformation-Start;sid=FBS8tDMsZU681HOgY9K2v3whIGNOhIC2j3A=?CategoryName=dcc_DICamcorders_DVDHandycamCamcorders&ProductSKU=DCRDVD101&Dept=dcc)

Anyone who has used a DVD-based Camcorder or has any opinions, pls feel free to provide any input.

have a look at this…

Panasonic VDR-M70

Isn't Sony better for dim lights or low light photography?

This Panasonic has min 12 lux.

Even VHS-C tapes can't be reused too many times, I was having issues using it a second time even. Its true about not being able to play directly in a VCR, but u can hook the camera up to the tv, and its soooooo much better quality.

I think that's a bad idea. First you can't reuse the DVD either. Second if you record from it you're already losing quality, if you rip from it you're definitely losing quality.
MiniDV you can just copy to a computer and then burn as many DVD's you want with it. Ofcourse that's just my opinion.

Well, there are DVD-RW's, that you can reuse many times.

The best part is that its very easy to view your recording on a DVD player. Just pop in the DVD and you are set.

Plus, its much easier to move the recording to the computer by just popping in the DVD or, alternatively, use Firewire/USB 2.0 (similar to MiniDV camcorders).

I was looking at one the other day, but so far I'm not convinced mainly becuase they are larger than digital camcorders and you can't do as much editing.

I 2nd that, ther are massive!! I will not prefer it over my MiniDV.

Baba's advice.. never be an early adopter.

Unfortunately my experience with MiniDV’s is quite discouraging. Practically speaking they can’t be reused more than a few times and then the ‘head’ is so nazuk, that within an year of use the blocks start to appear and been repaired twice and still no faida. I have had bad experiences with three makes… Canon, Panasonic and Sharp (didn’t try Sony yet in MiniDV)

DVD-based camcorders are not much bigger than MiniDV’s anyway, cz they use small sized DVD’s and not full size DVD. And they have been around for a while. :hoonh:
