DVD backup!!

hi guys,
i recently bought a laptop with a DVD writer and thought i would be able to copy and write the DVDs on my CDs. the DVD file is soo big and im not really sure how i can fit this to my 700MB CD!!!
can any1 help me out in here??
thnx

Re: DVD backup!!

You want to copy and write the DVD's on your CD's??

DVD's are generally 4.7GB and CD's are 700MB. You can copy as much data on each as they can hold.

If you plan to copy movies into your own DVD's, then you may run into space issues as DVD+R may run out of space before copying the entire movie. Get the free software called DVD Shrink (Google it), and see if it helps.

Re: DVD backup!!

Wut your problem is that you are using a regular CD-R/RW for burning. In order to burn the DVD, you will need a DVD-R cd, which, as Faisal said, will have the capacity (4.7 GB compared to regular cd's 700 mb) to hold the DVD file. So you just gotta use DVD-R instead of CD-R....

Re: DVD backup!!

Even with DVD shrink sometimes these things dont work. DVD shrink after it gets done shrinking the DVD, wants a blank DVD and often failes to write to the blank DVD using Nero which it automatically detects wheather it is on the system or not.
Try it. wont hurt to try.

Re: DVD backup!!

U can just create an .iso file in step 1. If you don't have Nero you can then use any DVD buning software to burn that image onto a DVD.

Re: DVD backup!!

^ yes. Use this tool to make the ISO and store it in your Hard drive

and then use burning software — tell it to burn from “disc image” or a similar option

Re: DVD backup!!

sure can be done but you’ll loose, menu, additional goodies and sub-title, you’ll have to sacrifice the movie quality as well as audio. Just Google for “DVD to Divx” and you’ll find the answer for your question. Today, when industry is moving towards HD-DVD or Blue-Ray DVD and you are looking at around 15GB or more. A normal DVD, now, is around 7.5 to 9.5GB because of dual layer. But if you were to convert that kind of DVD to a CD you are talking about loosing enormous amount of quality.

Happy conversion!

Re: DVD backup!!

Yes Tofi but that image does not fit onto a CD.

I have even tried burnding a DVD movie to another DVD and that doesnt even work because a DVD-R has a capacity of 4.7 gigs and move movies are more than that, not to mention copyright protection that makes DVD copying fail.

Re: DVD backup!!
