Re: Duties of a Wife
if u dont wanna clean, just TELL him. it works, trust me. or do like a terrible job at cleaning something, so no one asks u again
Re: Duties of a Wife
Aisha you are terrible. Thank god you are taken :p
Re: Duties of a Wife
well women always complain about this stuff, there is always a way out of it. strike him when hes at his lowest,
always take his credit card when hes not feeling well.
make really bad food continuously for a week. once he cant take it anymore, he'll take u out to eat every day
if you have to clean the house and have no choice and cant hire a cleaning lady, be sneaky about it. make it a fun activity around the house. give him the vaccuum and say, 'oh i have to go get some groceries so tell me what u want..and BTW please just do a quick vacuum around the house while im gone, it'll take two seconds, thanks hun.'
Re: Duties of a Wife
I agree
Re: Duties of a Wife
It seems that the people responding to this thread feel that there are no set roles for either the male or the female in a relationship. I find that hard to believe.
Either these folks are not answering the question realistically, or they are looking at things through rose coloured glasses.
Lajawab has posted a lengthy and very romanticized explanation of what he expects from his wife. Though I believe that the post is honorable and accurate to a large degree where it addresses the feminism and liberation aspects, I don't think that it is a complete picture. So let me ask him again.....what are the woman's duties in a relationship?
Re: Duties of a Wife
No, I really do think there are no set roles, aside from biological ones. A woman HAS to give birth, no way around it.
I don't see any justification for gender roles, esp. those in our culture. I dont see the Quran talking about how a woman HAS to be the one doing all the cooking and cleaning. I dont see it written anywhere in stone.
And if you think justification is "that's how it was done in the stone age", well then people also killed without getting imprisoned in the stone age as well. But we dont want that tradition back....
So why do we choose the female cleans house tradition only? Is it because that's centuries of brainwashing... hmm ... something to ponder...
Re: Duties of a Wife
There is nothing here that suggests we have chosen "only female cleans house" tradition.
The reason why I have asked if there should be roles is because I believe that as males and females we have certain qualities in which we both excel. A man can do somethings better than a woman and vice versa.
Do you at least agree with that?

Yes, women can have babies better than men. But that’s just about it.

You’re generalizing when you say that. It really just depends on the individual man and the individual woman in the scenario. They will both find their strengths and weaknesses and in a healthy marriage, they will help to complete each other. You cannot sit here and say this is what any given woman’s role is because this is what women excel at. Everyone is an individual with their own individual strengths and weaknesses.
Re: Duties of a Wife
Pray tell, could you list what qualities women excel in, and what qualities men excel in?
Re: Duties of a Wife
obviously there are some specific duties. ex. husband is the head of the family unit and has to provide for his family.
Re: Duties of a Wife
I’m with you on this…but sometimes I wonder…and the more I observe married couples, and the more I think about it, the more I realize that wives do not want to be “friends” with their husbands…
I mean, here’s how they think: take your best friend (I assume it’s a male). The guy you hang out with, shoot the breeze with, talk politics and watch cricket with…all that best buddy stuff, whatever it is. Now add breasts. That’s what they think you want them to become…
Venus and Mars indeed…
