Do brides still throw rice behind them when they are exiting the hall?
I saw it happen quite a lot few years ago , the weddings i’ve been to now it seems to have dissappeared.
Also holding the Quran-e-Paak above the bride’s head, really have not seen people do this as much now.
Thoughts?

well holding the Quran has happened to every wedding i have been to (been to like hundreds, lol), but rice throwing hasn't happened ever!btw i live in Pakistan, so you never know how it happens in other countries...

I dunno...the rice throwing mostly stems from Bollywood movies....always makes me wonder the deliberate waste of rice grains and people walking over them.... sigh

We still have the brother of th bride hold the Quran above her head.
Never seen the rice thing.

I had seen the rice throwing tradition in Indian weddings (a la Bollywood). It had something to do with fertility and prosperity.
TLK, I think throwing rice is a western tradition but that's when the guests throw rice at a newly wed couple. It's outdated though, now the guests most likely throw confetti instead. I think the bride throwing rice behind her is a hindu rasam. I'm not sure though, I haven't seen the rice throwing thing being done in my family.

I used to see the rice throwing but think people have stopped this because of the wastage and people walking over rice.
I can't remember when the last time i saw the Quran being held over the bride's head..why do we do this rasam, does anyone know??

Yes, that's a hindu rasam. You hardly ever see it in the US nowadays because the halls forbid it - they don't like cleaning up the mess of crushed rice afterwards (they forbid throwing rose petals too)

i saw the rice thing last year .. at a wedding in some village.. they throw rice over the head of bride..
i was asking dad/mom what it is, they said “uneducated lot”

Rice throwing is mostly in Indian weddings.
Quran above bride's head still happens in Pakistan and is very common.
