well holding the Quran has happened to every wedding i have been to (been to like hundreds, lol), but rice throwing hasn't happened ever!btw i live in Pakistan, so you never know how it happens in other countries...
I dunno...the rice throwing mostly stems from Bollywood movies....always makes me wonder the deliberate waste of rice grains and people walking over them.... sigh
TLK, I think throwing rice is a western tradition but that's when the guests throw rice at a newly wed couple. It's outdated though, now the guests most likely throw confetti instead. I think the bride throwing rice behind her is a hindu rasam. I'm not sure though, I haven't seen the rice throwing thing being done in my family.

Yes, that's a hindu rasam. You hardly ever see it in the US nowadays because the halls forbid it - they don't like cleaning up the mess of crushed rice afterwards (they forbid throwing rose petals too)
