During Ramadan..

Are weddings completely, totally forbidden? or just traditionally not done?
Just random thought that popped into my head..

Re: During Ramadan..

Well in pakistan they are done just like any other time.

Re: During Ramadan..

really? i've never heard of weddings being done during Ramadan...

Re: During Ramadan..

why they should be forbidden ?

The reason is that people dont want hassle in this month, specially ladies as they need lot of time for prepration , shopping etc

Re: During Ramadan..

^ I dunno, that's why i'm asking naaaaaa :D

Re: During Ramadan..

no, there is no such thing which forbids wedding in ramadan....
just that since everyone is fasting in the day and (presumably) busy in nawafil in the night, hence they keep it off till everyone is free....

reminds me of an incident mufti taqi usmani mentions in his book....
he says that once his father was sick during ramadan, and thought that he'd not recover from the sickness....
and in this state, he says that usually people pray to die in ramadan, but i cant even pray for such a thing....
cuz if i die in ramadan, i will cause so much problem for my relatives, who will be fasting and will have to go thru my funeral and burial, and i dont want to cause them all this trouble when they r fasting....

so if a good man does not wish to put his family thru the troubles caused by death (something which he cannot anyway control), why wud he wish to cause them trouble over marriage, which can always be put off to after ramadan....

Re: During Ramadan..

That makes sense.. thanks armughal..

Re: During Ramadan..

its a traditional thingy....nothing religious + everyone feels guilty of doing all that bhangra and dholki thing in the middle of ramadan....after ramadan same things become fine :p
so they say ...let's wait...when we can do what we wanna do

Re: During Ramadan..

I got nikah-ed in Ramadhan way back ..

It is a month of self devotion to Allah and people want to remain focussed on it as well as back home marriages require a lot of running around so people feel they won't be able to do the work and FAST as well, so better to delay it, I am sure thought that some people in their minds have made it haram or something becuase of how we are, weak on knowledge...

Re: During Ramadan..

i would love to get married (atleast nikahfied) in this blessed month :-) .. fasting and praying will enforce some sort of "sadigi" in my marriage.. warna tou Allah rahem karay ....
