How much it varies from one culture to other?
Do religions have a say to determine such periods or religions themselves got affected from culture practices of mourning.

For wedding... It may depend on death. and dates may re-schedule if bewah *is on *iddat...

But when mourning is for three days, how come this 4 months restrictions come to play on the basis of iddat and that too for Nikah / wedding of some other family member in the family. This says that religion does not have a say in period of mourning.

you should take a baptism in nearest gurdwara ASAP

Technically I was baptized at birth with the name Prabhjyot. I changed it in class X and baptism was never effective on either me or my brother
