Salaam girls
This is not for bridal type of dupatta setting, I wanted to see pics or ideas of how to drape heavy/long dupattas when going to parties/to a wedding as a guest. For people who wear hijab, how do you wear your dupattas that go with your suit?

^ This would be awesome!
I don’t use dupatta as a hijab, its actually quite difficult to do so (especially the heavier, embroidered ones). I wear a matching hijab and let the dupatta hang on my shoulder.
Re: Dupatta draping for Parties
I do too, but sometimes I see other women in hijab(usually plain but matching colour) and then their dupatta amazingly draped yet when I practise at home, I can never get the same effect.
Re: Dupatta draping for Parties
ask them how they do it then and let the rest of us know!
Re: Dupatta draping for Parties
Currently wearing dupaata is not in style in Pakistan. Is this true?
^ lolz are you being sarcastic?
Neways... styles in Pakistan... they drive me madd! I once met a newly wed woman who had come over to Ireland from Pakistan after getting married and she HAD to consider what's "in fashion" before doing anything at all... she even said being a little chubby was in fashion at the moment so she wanted to put on a little bit of weight!!

i wouldn't be posting on here if it was so easy to ask them would i?

oh god some of u posters are so useless. if u have nothing to add then must you post ur nonsense? really she's asking for help so if you have some advice to share then please do. otherwise, don't waste our time by posting nonsense.
i also would LOVE to know how to drape heavy dupattas as theyre long and heavy.
these are the ways i know of:
you hang it over one shoulder with it folded or pleated nicely
you take one corner at the back and drape it across your other shoulder with a v in the middle? and do same in front so the front corner is a little longer and hangs over the opposite shoulder. so both corners will be on same shoulder. hope that makes sense
i think you can also cross it over your front as well sort of gujurati style.
you can also take the corner in back and fold it into your lengha skirt at the waist so it drapes nicely in back....those are how i've seen it done. if there's more, then please do share.

yes it is being considered optional nowadays ...see the kaftan style doesn't come with dupatta :)
Erm…the parties have finished and I don’t know who they were or where they live? :s Not exactly rocket science.

sorry, i'm just not one to admire something and then sit around and wonder how it's done. i'd have complimented and asked them how it done, then and there

good for you. each to their own and i didn't do that do your input has been a waste here. jeez
Similar problem.
One option is to wear your hijab as normal - something very subtle - similar colour.
Then carry the dupatta separately over both your arms - so it covers your back…
Know what I mean? Looks graceful without being too cumbersome to handle - which is a danger muhaja-babes face every day!
Oh and the best part is it keeps your hands free
