“Dumbledore is gay,” the author responded to gasps and applause.

Re: Dumbledore is gay

Well that's not really all that interesting.

Re: Dumbledore is gay

harry potter is the gayest of em all. The dude rides around a broom stick between his legs. Plays with a small stick yellin stuff like "errectus nowama"

any one who even glanced at a hairy potter book is a faggot

Re: Dumbledore is gay

Isn't it obvious - she's trying to needle the Christian groups.

Re: Dumbledore is gay

:omg:

Re: Dumbledore is gay

Yaar thats it ... my votes for Voldemort now ... kam az kam mard to hai na ..

Re: Dumbledore is gay

i take it back -- this raises some really important issues regarding authorial intent and who gets the last word in terms of interpreting a text. sounds like tomorrow's 12th grade class is planned!

Re: Dumbledore is gay

this is stupid

so after the mania about the last book was over she wondered, oh mann i am probably never going to be a headline again, so let me make Dumbledore gay so people can talk about me again. moron!

Re: Dumbledore is gay

dumb

Re: Dumbledore is gay

I must say I probably never had respect but at least might have given some credence to her creativity however given what she is propagating is quite disturbing. This crystalizes an impression in the minds of many young children that it is fine to be gay because even some of the most wonderful people (as Dumbledores role would be have no issue being gay.

What a vixen to reveal this after millions of children are addicted to the fantasy now.

Re: Dumbledore is gay

^ Well said!

Re: Dumbledore is gay

Hey you punny!

Re: Dumbledore is gay

I only read first 4 pages of Harry Potter(1st one i think Philosopher's stone) and after that I never read it again nor watched any of Harry Potter movies.
I just hated it.

Re: Dumbledore is gay

awesome marketing scheme..

Re: Dumbledore is gay

aargh......why does it even have to matter.....it was just a story....read it like one...

Re: Dumbledore is gay

did it go against your morals?

Re: Dumbledore is gay

i read this in another foum tooooooooooooo

Re: Dumbledore is gay

i do agree that this is a lame attempt at recreating Harry Potter hype. However, it raises lots of important issues about authorship and literary analysis.

If you want a more thoughtful analysis of the issue, check out this article:

We also discussed it in my 12th grade English class today. Here are the questions my students raised:

Is the written word superior tot he spoken?

Does the author truly control/shape charaacters?

Where does that control end?

How important is the author’s influence?

Is the author’s decision the “be all and end all”?

Should later adaptations affect the meaning of the original?

Should other authors be allowed to write sequels/prequels?

Should information released post-publication influence later adaptation?

Do such questions only apply to fiction?

Do art/literature belong more to anyone?

Can art/literature belong to anyone?

Does the author’s intent/plan make it true?

Is there absolute truth in literature?

Why is this a positive development?

What does it say about society that Dumbledore’s sexuality really matters so much?

Does JKR have the right to say this, after the completion of the text?

Can a written text eveolve and change like an oral text?

Is the author just another reader?

Is the author’s interpretation fact?

If the author states fact, can you have a dissenting opinion?

Does the author have a responsibility toward her/his readers and their enjoyment?

Re: Dumbledore is gay

women is probably going through manopause and lost her mind
