Anyone heard name of this Dulla Bhatti.. He considered to be a folk hero in Punjab and many songs refer to his bravery. Back in 50’s Pakistan made a movie ‘Dulla Bhatti’ too. The famous song ‘Wasta ee rub da tu javeen we kabootra’ from the movie is still popular
I read that Dulla kidnapped two of Mughal emperor Akbar’s wives on their way to Haj. So what was the story behind rivalry and this rebel?
Some historians say that rebels of Dulla Bhatti and likes made Akbar to shift his capital to Lahore for 15 years.
I was of the view that it was only Jehangir, who made Lahore his Capital. I also used to think about loop hole in Anarkali story that when during Akbar’s rule Lahore was not the capital then how the grave of Anarkali is in Lahore.
According to Wikipedia Lahore has remained capital of different empires albeit for short periods like hindu Shahi kingdoms, ghaurids, ghaznavids, and moguls.
But it remained capital for 15 years during Akbar's region and probably whole of Jehangir's region. Mughal buildings proves this that how important they consider the city. Aurangzeb built the Badshahi Mosque. Shahi Qila remained centre of attention of all Mughal rulers from Jehangir to Aurangzeb.
Coming on the topic, have you heard of Dulla Bhatti before. In Indian Punjab they celebrate his day each year in January :)
Sad indeed As per the video in second post, Bhatti got chance to arrest Jehangir (son of his enemy Akbar), but he refused to kill him by saying that my enemy is Akbar not Jehangir. Akbar was also later arrested by his troops and when Akbar said I’m not the emperor but a Darbari Bhaand, Dulla left him
