Re: Duke University’s decision to sound Muslim call to prayer(azan every friday)
P_G I can understand your sentiments and every Muslim here will understand the same. But, don’t you think that your example is not suitable for current discussion? Your example relates to Prophet’s era and there a movement to spread Islam was taking place. When they were weak and expecting atrocities from likes of Abu Jahal, they did it secretly and when they became stronger when people like Hazrat Umar (RA) accepted Islam, they started doing it openly. Here the purpose of Muslim students in university is not preaching the religion.
I agree that as they have allowed others to pray, Muslim should also be allowed to do so (and someone mentioned that there are prayers rooms for Muslims in such institutions across USA). Though there are some comments in this thread, which I didn’t like myself, but if someone express fear of security based on their experience or perception, we should not attack them with the terms like ‘apologetic’, etc.
Apart from all these things, I’m still waiting for an answer to a valid point raised by TLK about whether Juma can be performed at a place without Pesh Imam and not having daily prayers arrangement (ba -jamat) 5 times a day.
