would appreciate any advice on places worth visiting in dubai? for shopping, site seeing or whatever…
oh man. There is no shortage of things to do/see in Dubai.

Shopping alone will take up most of your time. The malls are seemingly endless in quantity. Electronics, gold, shalwar kameezes, - name it, you got it. It’s a (window) shopper’s paradise.
i would recommend going wadi bashing… rent a jeep, hire the services of a wadi guide/driver, and go driving in the sand dunes. Literally. You go in an SUV and explore the dunes. Sounds boring, but believe me - there is no other experience that comes close to it.
Rent a dhow and go sailing on the Dubai creek. If you like golfing, there are world-class golf courses.
For the kids - there are some amusement parks waghera. Wild Wadi Water Park is one option for the little tots.
For the older tots - museums: there’s the Dubai Museum at the al Fahidi Fort.
Sheikh Saeed al Maktoum House - turned into a museum, used to be the residence of one of the rulers. Dates back to 1896, i think.
Burj al Arab hotel, one of the world’s most ridiculously expensive hotels. i think it costs 50 dirhams just to step foot inside the front lounge. They organize tours.
Al Jumeirah Mosque - arguably one of the most beautiful masjids in the UAE. They also organize tours on Thursday mornings.
Dubai is filled with beaches. No shortage of beaches to soak your toes in the sea.
Shopping, sight-seeing, golfing, water parks, amusement parks, museums, sailing on dhows… you’ll find something to do every single hour. i bet you’ll be so sick of the word “Dubai” subsequent to your trip 
ps- if you have time, try to visit Abu Dhabi/Al Ain as well. They are worth it IMHO.
^^ ^^ thanks a lot . that sounds brilliant. cant wait to get there and might not want to come back home afterwards. i think its going to have to be shopping and more shopping for me , followed by the dhow experience... ohhh taht sounds so good and swimming .
