Dubai

On my next trip to Pakistan (most probably in October this year) I will have a very brief stop in Dubai (around 3 hours).

The thing is: I was planning to get myself a new digital camera for quite some time. And now I am wondering whether I should get it from here (Austria) or buy it from Dubai, which would be cheaper I guess.

But then I would have problems with warranty and stuff.

So is the price difference really that much?

For example:

Minolta Dimage Xt would cost € 288 here. (approx. US$ 351)

I personally found that I can get much better prices in the US. I browsed around in Dubai with the same conclusion. I was told that shops in the city were less expensive than the Duty Free. But even there I was a little disappointed. Plus the fact that being from NY most applicances bought in NY would not work. I don't know how prices are in Austria Umer, so it might work for you. Considering your voltage is the same as Dubai too.

List the cameras ur interested in. I'll write down duty free prices, market price (straight from the dealer), & my special discounted price...whichever ur interested in...! U can compare the prices with ur local prices later. Duy free does not compete with the local market of Dubai, it just competes with international duty free's like Singapore, Amsterdam, NY etc...!

Duty free gives international warranty & the no of years depends on the manufacturer.

hey, I got a list of things I've been thinking about for a while. I'll send you my list too. :)

One of the items is the GMT II watch. Remember u posted a picture of the gold on black one?

That would be great! Thanks a lot.

I´m thinking about getting one of those (I have a preference for Canon though):

Canon Digital Ixus 400 (Price in Austria: 346,50 Euro)
Canon Powershot S50 (Price in Austria: 366,12 Euro)
Minolta Dimage Xt (Price in Austria: 243,-- Euro)
Sony Cybershot DSC-P73 (Price in Austria: 257,-- Euro)

^^

Canon is tops. Stay away from Sony and any other manufacturer whose primary business is not cameras.

I'm very excited about the new Canon Digital Rebel. Used to have a regular Rebel during my prof. days. Have to see if I can "appropriate" funds from my recent bonus. But also want some new wheels for my car. So have to decide.

Sony is good in camcorders, been using the TRV70 for a few months, been loving it.

1 Canon Digital Ixus 400 (Price in Austria: 346,50 Euro)
2 Canon Powershot S50 (Price in Austria: 366,12 Euro)
3 Minolta Dimage Xt (Price in Austria: 243,-- Euro)
4 Sony Cybershot DSC-P73 (Price in Austria: 257,-- Euro)

1 - AED 1495 (362 Euro) (discontinued by duty free)
2 - AED 1900 (461 Euro) (discontinued by duty free)
3 - AED 1130 (274 Euro)
4 - AED 1195 (290 Euro)

Exchange rate is approx 1 Euro = AED 4.12

These are Duty Free prices. Let me clarify that this is comparitively cheaper than most duty free's. The market prices vary & are cheaper by AED 200 - AED 400 (49 Euro - 97 Euro)

I'll get a quote of my prices after discount & let u know umer.

Tofi bhai, the GMT II I remember very well, I can get u a hefty discount on those. Almost 20% & if possible more. If there is a waiting list on that model, I'll make sure u get it, without having to wait.

Im getting a Canon too, details later, after its in my hands Inshallah.
