I am proud of being a part of this city. Pakistan has contributed a lot in the success of this country, in terms of logistics, expertise, labor, time.

Re: Dubai - Towering achievement

^^ yes and gotten very little in return

Slave labor is building Dubai.

Just remember, when you see the buildings in Dubai

They are all Pakistani/Indian/Bangladeshi Buildings.

We build them.

Re: Dubai - Towering achievement

just another arab vanity project. yayy we can have people make buildings for us

Re: Dubai - Towering achievement

May I ask some very important questions:

  • Since when is land scarce in Dubai?
  • Who's going to fill these buildings? *]And, what need is there for all these sky scrappers?

Re: Dubai - Towering achievement

hskhan, if you have not heard/read lately sky scrappers are built to show your economic growth/power and world leadership (in whatever sense).

Dubai is going to (or claimed as or planned as rather) be World's new capital of globalization phenomenon. A lots of American (yes, including Haliburton), Russian, European, Chinese and Indian companies will now be moving their head quarters to Dubai and will be registered as such, instead of having a particular country's stamp on it.

Re: Dubai - Towering achievement

In what sense does this demonstrate world leadership? The architects are foreigners. The engineers are foreigners. The labourers are foreigners. The people who occupy it will be foreigners. What exactly are Emiratis leading the world in? Importing brains and brawns?

In Hong Kong, Tokyo, New York, or London - you build tall because you have to. The only real state there is, is vertical. If land's scare - you look to air. Not so in egotistical Dubai.

Re: Dubai - Towering achievement

It boils down to showmanship

Dubai has money and they are building these ridiculous buildings to show that they are not some camel and goat herding arabs but civilized Arabs

according to their perception

Re: Dubai - Towering achievement

But Tall buildings look cool :D

Re: Dubai - Towering achievement

To all the skeptics here, can I ask something...We as Pakistanis, came here (mostly educated) looking for a better oppurtunity & we did get recognition. This was during the oil boom in 60s. Most of the Pakistanis I know got UAE passports, for a job well done. We built the Emirates airlines, we made Khaleej Times, a leading newspaper in the Gulf, we made Al Futtaim enterprises, & the list goes on, but did we really capitalize, & bring back the success to our homeland...NO...a BIG NO.

We were a country in 1947, this was only in 1971. What labor...these people are paid, & they know that they will be doing hard work, same goes for the labor back in Pakistan, u think that beautiful diplomatic enclave or Badshahi masjid was built by prime ministers & beaureaucrats...NO...they were slaves, the same thing which u are calling these people who built this magnificent tower...Burj in arabic. They had money, even before most of u were born, & I'm talking loads. Check guiness book of world records, who has the highest GDP back in 1980...Abu Dhabi. But did they build a tower back then...NO. Coz they didn't have the expertise.

The government laid a plan in 1994, to educate every citizen in UAE, & the biggest initiative was a $10 billion...yes read BILLION funding from the vice president himself. This is the sort of leadership every citizen wants. Not nawaz asshole & benazir *****. They pushed their citizens into the best of colleges, & universities, so that they can benefit.

Labor from Pakistan & other countries u say, I ask u, where the fuk is our leadership, what the fuk are they doing in brand new S class & 740ils, when they shud be concentrating on the education & healthcare of our country.

Dont be jealous, this is the reflection of hard work, undertaken by Pakis & Indis alike, under a great leadership.

Building the largest tower glorifies the work u have done for ur own citizens, regardless of what they did or did not with other country citizens residing in this same country.

This country has helped Pakistan in the most difficult of times. We are a part of it, I am a part of it, & Im proud of it.

May Allah bless this country with more prosperity & success. Ameen.

Re: Dubai - Towering achievement

puttar, its very easy to point a finger at someone. I know saudis are a lot jealous of the success in Dubai. Since u lived a portion of ur life in saudi, what respect did u get in saudi...none right. But here, several Pakistanis, including ARY's CEO, has got recognition & respect from not only the VP of UAE, but a lot of other dignitaries. Its hard to digest the success of a country isn't it. Coz we could have had it, but we didn't coz we are embroiled in our own sad state of affairs.

Bloody mohajirs calling themselves mohajirs, even after living in our country for 50+ years. Punjabis hating Pathans, Pathans hating Punjabis, Balochis hating everyone, the list just goes on & on. Here after a Pakistani got his passport, he is welcomed & made at home...4ever.

Re: Dubai - Towering achievement

I believe even the tall buildings in HK, NY & London were built by asians...isn't it...? Importing brains, America has been doing that ****, even before u were born, why don't u criticize them??? Oh yea, u live there, u pay taxes, so u are basically a namak halal with that country, well guess what, if Dubai is doing the same for the betterment of their society, I will fully support them, coz that shud be the case. Our Prophet (SAWW) said, that if u have to go to china for further education, go ahead, these guys did, brought it back, & are now implementing it. Thanks to a great leadership

Re: Dubai - Towering achievement

Vanity, is just another excuse bro. Yea this building will house the first ever Giorgio Armani hotel, will be quite exclusive & stuff, but isn't that the same with leading cities like NY, London, HK, Tokyo, Paris, etc...Why shud Dubai be left behind. They have learnt the traits of the modern world, so does it make them any less. They are better than most of us Pakistanis when it comes to hospitality & alms. They have very good hearts. Dubai has been a stauch supporter of the nuclear buildup in Pakistan, but very quietly.

Abu Dhabi is the first city to help whenever Pak goes thru a natural calamity or in times of need. Heck, Dubai was the first to send its rescue teams back during the Oct earthquake. We have to respect where the help comes from, coz they do the same. They recognize us Pakistanis, we have to learn to respect them as well.

Re: Dubai - Towering achievement

Oh really? You're only welcomed and made at home when you get a passport? When did the last Pakistani get a passport? Can I have his/her name and number? I want to check if they live in any one of the tent villages that surround this potemkin sky-scrapper of a village's ever removed and ignorant vantage point.

The skyscrappers you see today are not the work of educated Emiratis. The sheikh's 1994 initiative has nothing to do with it. The companies that build these tall buildings may be named Emirates, Nakheel or Emaar, but their brains and brawns are as British or Asian as ever. The only local input is, as always, capital.

When Japan made towers - it employed Japanese. When America made towers - it employed Americans. When Arabs make towers, they hire a dozen British designers and boat in a few hundred Pakistani labourers. So much for Arab ingenuity.

Re: Dubai - Towering achievement

Nice, I'd like to see

  1. This kind of effort and dedication to be put in Pakistan's buildings. Oh right, no one cares about how that country looks...

  2. People to stop focusing so much on "Ooh, ooh, we throw money and we get the biggest building in the world - meanwhile the rest of the muslim world is either suffering or on the verge of suffering".

Mal1k, don't get offended, I know your intent is good. :-/

Re: Dubai - Towering achievement

Like that is not the case in US, correct me if Im wrong, but Paki is a racist term in UK, & in US, u are referred to as bloody asians, or osama hot bed territory citizens, etc stuff like that. Tent villages, our Prophet used to live in a tent. Come the holy month of Ramadan, & u see tents in the vicinity of 5star hotels here, whats wrong with that. Why can't heritage be adapted with the new, whats wrong with that...??? Is it coz Dubai has a lot of Mercs & $$$. Dubai took the initiative of educating its citizens, irrespective of race, creed, color. What similar step did ANY of the leadership of Pakistan take...did it even care to invest in education in poor balochistan or sarhad...??? NO.

Forget the numbers u ask for, come visit here, see the difference, u will understand better. As far as I know, people are coming in, investing here, especially from US & UK, & they are mostly naturalized Pakistanis or Indians. I wonder why.

Re: Dubai - Towering achievement

I understand, that is the same point Im emphasizing. We are the same Pakistanis, who left our country to build this. Dubai had the money, respect & leadership. Had we got the same, I promise u, that we would have built a country ten times better than this, but sorry, it just doesn't work this way.

I hate the leadership in Pakistan, becoz it does not believe in the system of equality & justice for all.

Re: Dubai - Towering achievement

At least Pakistan is staying true to its heritage and culture. It doesn't appear as if Dubai is, unless it is imitating the kafir.
