Testy, testy. Your initial argument was a little vague, did not say whether the Chinese Govt had major ownership in CNOOC (the ‘acquiring’ company), I was under the wrong impression u meant Unocal. Now that has been cleared, it still does not make any difference. Fact is dear postee, US Govt and its law makers have no problems investing into State owned Chinese companies, nor did they have any problems when Microsft or Dell wanted to establish their manufacturing units in China. US Govt has a history of financial duplicity ranging from its dealings with AirBus to to the Chinese, Japanese acquiring Rockefellar center to loans made out to corrupt Latin American countries.
Take the example of US oil companies making investments in Russia companies, Conoco Phillips deal with Lukoil (majority owner Russia Govt), or Saudi Billionare bailing out CitiBank from near bankruptcy back in 1992. List is endless, therefore this argument of Chinese Govt having major stake in Cnooc gave the company unfair advantage falls flat on its face when u c US Govt brazenly and vigorously defending the right of its Corporate world.
