DUBAI, 26 May 2008 — The Dubai Police, in coordination with the Ministry of Social Affairs, have launched an awareness campaign against cross-dressing by young people. The phenomenon of girls dressing and acting like the opposite sex and vice versa has increased among Emirati youth in high schools and colleges, especially during the past five years.

Tamim blamed parents saying that they were failing in their duty toward their children because they did not spend enough time with them. “A lot of these teenagers turn to such deviant behavior to make up for the lack of parental attention,”

The Dubai Police yesterday said its personnel have arrested several men and women for cross-gender dressing and harassment … campaign was to preserve social values, specifically to combat the growing phenomenon of cross-gender dressing by both men and women.

He also called upon the Ministry of Social Affairs to study the reasons behind the trend and recommend solutions. **“Co-education could be one of the reasons behind this,” **he opined.

^ I believe it all started in prisons, where prisoners are not allowed to have belts so their trousers will be dragging down all the time. "Show your underwear" is probably the most crass and senseless fashion wave for men, in recent years.
