So my dad has a propetry in Dubai.
The agent asked for some money a while ago, and my dad being simple and honest gave it to him ( from the rent ) now he agent won’t give it back. It’s equivalent to 15k sterling British .
He keeps making excuses and promises but doesn’t adhere to them.
What can we do?
The agent does have a shop or agency here in London too

Report it to dubai authorities? How was the money given? What does this agent have to do withyour dads property does ur dad own it exclusively?

Send a car full of boys with baseball bats to his house. That's what I did when an agent tried screwing out of rent. Did the trick - had the money within 3 hours.

He's the agent in charge of my dad's flat
He collects the rent. It's now given in bank accounts but he has the rent for 2012 or something.
He lives in Dubai
And where is the proof.We don't have any

Did you have at least an official contract or something drawn up that states his agency will collect rent on your dad behalf? If not then yea its gone. Sorry

Legal document can be used in legal action against agent. Please report to police.

Hire another agent to recover money from this agent.

Your dad gave cash? If yes, then it'll be difficult.
Contact Dubai police anyway. They're very strict about this. I actually know a guy who was sent to jail even though he took cash.

If there is no record of transaction, its something illegal that your dad did (knowingly or unknowingly). He will have hard time recovering it.

There needs to be some paper trail, contract, cheque clearance record of all transactions that occurred between the agent and your dad. If you have those, first thing is to visit the nearest police station. Preferably the Al Qusais, HQ and file a claim that is valid. i.e, if your dad just gave him the money upon trust, then it would be very hard to get it until you send your own "boys". The police will advice on the correct course of action .

I was going to write the exact same thing! if there isnt any paper trail even the cops wont be able to help u out. Unfortunately this happens very often in Dubai. These days your money cannot be trusted in anyone hands but your own!

Hmmmm ok thanks
