I was browsing the net to find out, whether it is possible to hold the Austrian nationality and be a citizen of Pakistan at the same time. The question came up, because my wife has a Pakistani passport and I hold the Austrian one and we would have wanted our newborn son to have both. The embassy told me, that this was not possible.
But to let others benefit from my “browsing”, I wanted to share the following information from the website of Pakistan’s interior ministry:
I would just like to add something. Some high paying jobs require you to have nationality of the country where you are going to work and cannot have dual nationality.
For example if you are applying to get a job at United States Atomic Energy Commision, it is a requirement for all aplicants for as far as i know to have US nationality and not dual nationality. And this also applies for a bulk of jobs for the CIA, FBI(Probably not for translators etc).
Other than that, dual nationality is great, I hold dual nationality. Staying as long as you want in Pakistan is pretty nice and you can always work in Pakistan if you want.
The international law say that a child born to a parents holding two different nationalities, automatically takes both nationalities if parents are legally married.
Just apply for austrian nationality for your child through your own & register the child in Pakistan when u bring the child to Pakistan, using your wife's credentials.
As a matter of FACT you are eligible for POC (Pakistan Origin CARD) even if u are not allwed to have dual nationalities. You cannot apply for NICOP but you are eligible for POC, if you are able to prove that your parents come from Pakistan.
I have also realized that Pakistani officials at Embassies know Jack about Laws, they are metric failed sifarshi (excluding consular or high jobs) appointed in higly complex jobs.
You need to show them the law to prove your point, otherwise they will just carry on their bullocks.
