Re: Dual nationality holders banned from contesting polls
If you are politician and your investment (or investment of your close one) is outside Pakistan than that is most damaging to the country, much worse than having dual nationality.
Reason:
1: Self interest: If your money is abroad than you lose nothing if country go to dogs and rupee value goes to Sht. Rather, you become richer in terms of rupee. On the other hand, if country prospers and rupee value rises than you lose as you become poorer in terms of rupee. So, your interest would be in making country go to dogs and rupee value to Sht.
2: Mistrust: Pakistanis whose investments are not in Pakistan show their mistrust on the future economy of Pakistan (or future of country). Since a politician plays role in making country stable and economically prosperous, such person should not mistrust country and country’s economy. So, such person should not invest abroad. Actually, from keeping investment in Pakistan shows his/her trust on Pakistan and Pakistani economy. Also tells voters that his/her prosperity is linked with prosperity of Pakistan.
Obviously, if a person trusts Pakistan economy than being Pakistani there is no reason for that person to invest abroad. If politicians invest abroad than how can such politician ask others to invest in Pakistan?
Dual National: Most people take dual nationality because they think it would increase their opportunities in life. That does not mean loyalty of dual national changes for Pakistan. In my opinion, there are many people of Pakistani origin with dual nationality, who when work for Pakistan they show more loyalty towards Pakistan than people with only Pakistani nationality.
