Interesting to note that the division of Deobandi / Barelvi in our area was witnessed by my Dada. He has witnessed the parting ways of two molvis of same masjid on issue of ‘Nabi Noor hai ya Bashar hai’ and that was last years of British rule in India.
One of mazar near our home relates to a Pir from naqshbandi order and that pir was alive in our childhood. We don’t have his memories, but Dadi told that ‘iske qabze main jinnat the’. She was, howver, skeptical of his acts and probably thought that greed element was involved in his peeri/ mureedi. Interestingly, during our visit to Islamabad, we met family friends (my phuppa’s relatives from Balakot) and there an elderly lady was mureed of this Naqshbandi pir from a remote area of rural Sindh. This pir got huge following in KPK’s area and there are local followers as well, but somehow my Dadi never liked that Pir.
