I know terminolgies, but I want to know to what extent one has replaced the other. Is it just the change of title or change of content as well. We don't hear aadab tasleemat, jeete raho, doodho nahao phooto phalo type sentences in our families now.
dhobi jab ghaat gayaa to kutta uske saath gayaa, jab vo lauTaa to dhobii ke saath...bechaare kutte ko pataa hii nahiiN chalaa k uskaa ghar dhobii kaa ghar hai yaa phir ghaaT hai uskaa ghar!
yehii 'salaam du'aa' aur 'Hi hello' kahne waaloN ke saath huaa...apnii zabaan se bhii gaye aur dusrii zabaan se bhii gaye...na hii Urdu saleeqe se aayii aur na hii angrezii meN kii bhii TaaNgeN toR Daali.
But to what extent dua salam has converted to hello hi. I've still seen some burgers saying 'nastaleeq' Assalam o Alaikum. Its just we all start conversation on phone by saying 'Hello'.

I don't. I still pick up the phone and say As salaam'alaikum.
And I do salam to all relatives and friends unless its a non muslim I'm talking to. Then I say hello/hi/good afternoon etc.
Most people ...well all the ppl I guess around me do salam and not hi/hello and we still say...salam dua hue ussey...not hi hello hue.
yes.. apart from that new generation has not grown up listening to the traditional 'balaen' by their elders... as mentioned above 'doodho nahao, phooto phalo'. This would be strange and ridiculous for them and beyond their comprehension within no time
duaon k liye public mai kehna zarori nai... concern need not be on public display either
Its not about public show. My concern is our children won't be growing up listening to those sweet words as we heard from our daadi/ naani. The level of sadqe waari jana is gradually decreasing in today's new nani/dadis.
Really cute thread. Because it reminds me of my grandmothers and mom who say 'salam dua'. I havent heard my mom saying salam dua for such a long time- she now says hello hi!! But of course, we still say the regular salam to all our muslim friends. just not 'usse meri salam dua hai'... I dont say it but i shall start :D

I still see in my family conveying 'usse mera salam kehna'. I don't think that this is followed by all desis now.
