Can a muslim offer dua-e-fatiha for a non-muslim. I have been thinking about doing one J. R. R. Tolkien. May allah miaN give him one of the highest places in Heaven for penning LOTR books. Ameen sum ameen.

Ofcourse you can pray and ask forgiveness for others.
Re: Dua-e-fatiha for non-muslims
Makes little sense too, imho. If someone doesn't recognize your way of praying, of what value is it other than self-edification to pray for this person?
One must consider the feeling of the dead people too. I would not want a Christian praying to Christ for my salvation at the moment of my death.
Re: Dua-e-fatiha for non-muslims
I don't believe you can ask for forgiveness for deceased non-Muslims. Perhaps someone else can shed some light on it.
Re: Dua-e-fatiha for non-muslims
Muslim can not ask for forgiveness for dead non-muslims.
Not even for parents or close relatives if they died on kufr.

Re: Dua-e-fatiha for non-muslims
There is a verse that says something on these lines: That Allah will not accept your prayer if you pray for unbelievers.

However, it is alright to offer prayer for those who are still alive - and ask Allah to show them the right path. This can be confirmed as Prophet Muhammad [PBUH] prayed to Allah asking for either Ali [ra] or Umer [ra] - reversion to Islam.

Re: Dua-e-fatiha for non-muslims
ok wait ppl... i heard that we are no one to judge who is going to hell and who is going to heaven, cause Allah (swt) is very kind and he can do wateva he want.. no one knows whose prayers are accepted and sins forgiven.. so does it apply also to non-muslims as well?
Re: Dua-e-fatiha for non-muslims
By non-Muslim if you mean that he does not commit Shirk - then yes, otherwise that person is going to hell.
Re: Dua-e-fatiha for non-muslims
Anyone who does not believe in Muhammad Bin Abdullah :saw: as the last prophet after hearing about him is a Non-muslim regardless.
And, No - It is unIslamic to pray for Maghfirah for any non-muslim.
Re: Dua-e-fatiha for non-muslims
Just to elaborate on that: The above statement only applies to those who have heard of Muhammad [PBUH] and the confirmation.
Technically, a Muslim is a person who surrenders to Allah[swt].
Re: Dua-e-fatiha for non-muslims
yes i said: "After hearing about him:saw: "

Re: Dua-e-fatiha for non-muslims
Ok now wat if a person was never told about islam or teaching of islam.. and suppose that person is hindu.. ofcourse we hear about different religions very day but we never take it serious.. so same with tat person he was never asked to convert.. so that person continues his practices as hindu.. do u think it will be right for him to say he will go to hell?
Re: Dua-e-fatiha for non-muslims
^ if he does shirk, then no matter if he was told or not told, he will be go to hell as Allah says He will not forgive shirk...
shirk is something that wont logically go to a human....
Re: Dua-e-fatiha for non-muslims
^ but it is like asking for good marks without teaching it to students..
maybe iam not right but it doesn't make sense... As always i think we are no one to decide .. Allah (swt) himself will decide, so it is wrong for a person to say if someone after death is going to hell or heaven....You never know when Allah (swt) forgive all his sins.....
Didn't u hear the story tat a person died and he was asked to do one sawab in order to go to heaven.. so he wondered everywhere asking ppl to give him a sawab and no one was ready to give him any sawab so at the end another person came to him and say here take my sawab , he said all my life i did one sawab and i have no way to go to heaven so u can have my sawab.. So Allah (swt) send both of them to heaven .. He said i really like the second person's act of giving away his only sawab knowing he wil never go to heaven.. There are soo many other stories related to it ..
So amargul u never know who is going to heaven and who is going to hell.. so i think it is totally wrong to say if a person is going to hell or heaven..
Instead we can say may Allah forgive his sins :)

^ stories
----------> i will make a new thread on the subjet of afterlife explaining why thats just a story.
Attia, Allah [SWT] has said in the Quran that He will not forgive Shirk. Period, no ifs or butts.
In the Hindu scriptures - It has been ordered to worship only 1 God! - unfortunately most Hindus do not follow the scriptures. If Hindus correctly follow the Oneness of God (as ascribed in the Vedas) then Allah [SWT] may forgive his/her sins and let him/her enter Paradise.
Similarly, Athiest or Buddhists (who believe in no God) - do not commit Shirk, therefore Allah[swt] may forgive them.
Allah Knows Best.
Jazak’Allah Khair
Re: Dua-e-fatiha for non-muslims
I've also heard this story, but I'm not sure how authentic it is.
Anyhow, if a person doesn't have imaan, there's no question of sawab. So the implication there is that they were both Muslim.
