Are there any restrictions in taking DSLR (specifically Nikon D90) to Saudi Arabia? The entry airport is Jeddah!
If anyone has information, please reply asap since we are hearing rumors about this!

Re: DSLR at Saudi Arabia Airport?
don't carry any purple haze filters, and you'll be fine..
Re: DSLR at Saudi Arabia Airport?
DSLR is sold openly here , its not something to be creating problem at all
Re: DSLR at Saudi Arabia Airport?
queer.. what was that about?
meetanauman.. a friend recently told me that KSA security doesn't let the camera go through so I was wondering if taking the DSLR would be of any problem!!
Re: DSLR at Saudi Arabia Airport?
are you maybe asking for hajj umrah
Re: DSLR at Saudi Arabia Airport?
^ yes we are going to egypt and then for umrah so we wanted to take our DSLR with us for Egypt.. I know you cant take cameras into the haram etc so we were just planning to leave that in hotel but I wonder if they will give us hard time at the airport!
Re: DSLR at Saudi Arabia Airport?
I think it would be okay if you kept your D90 in luggage. Not hand carry or something. They would have a problem if it's in a camera bag slinging off your shoulders or something. I know you won't but they might think you are taking pictures or something or want to. My khala recently went to Jeddah also for Umrah and she took a video camera and a point and shoot and both of those were in luggage and there was no problem.
Re: DSLR at Saudi Arabia Airport?
Thanks... thats the kind of answer I was looking for :-)
Re: DSLR at Saudi Arabia Airport?
Ur welcome.
Re: DSLR at Saudi Arabia Airport?
so were there any problems GtG?
Re: DSLR at Saudi Arabia Airport?
My brother was just there a few weeks ago and he has his Canon Rebel T2i in his bagpack (carry-on) as far as I know and he didn't have any problem. Although being Pakistani even though travelling on a different passport is a hassle in itself.

there is no problem at all in hand carry. i have both of them every time i travel. + i have my compact in my hand bag whenever i go to Haram. the only problem is in Madinah even with mobile having cameras.
Re: DSLR at Saudi Arabia Airport?
it has been a while since i went to Saudi last time but have never heard of any kind of camera restrictions there, kind of surprised.
Re: DSLR at Saudi Arabia Airport?
cdg and sheal, thanks for the replies and clarification :-)
KayZ: yea, I had heard about some camera restrictions recently, so thought I'd check too...
Re: DSLR at Saudi Arabia Airport?
sounds weird, what if some one doesnt know about it and brings in a camera in his hand luggage? Do they take that away at the airport ?
Re: DSLR at Saudi Arabia Airport?
My question is, if you go for Haj, do they allow you to take pictures or no?
Re: DSLR at Saudi Arabia Airport?
oh I am so sorry I didnt even notice this.. we had no problems at all with the camera and it was in our hand luggage!
While leaving Saudi Arabia, we had a few water and juice bottles and again no problems at all.. they didnt even check but with our stop over in Paris, we had to get rid of the water/juice bottles!
TLK.. yes you can take pics in the haram.. honestly out of respect we didnt feel comfortable lugging a huge camera into the haram so we had a pocket size one to take pics there.. but really didnt have much time to do so!!
However, in Madinah, they are very strict on women sides, no cameras, no mobiles with camera etc are allowed inside the masjid nabwi but no such restrictions on men sides.. my husband took quite a few pics in there!!

in masjid nabawi...ladies section no pics allowed...gents can....
