Hi folks

         I am getting very low speeds from my dynalink dsl modem RTA1320 the speeds are like 10KByte/sec which is far low than 256Kbps connection that i am paying for .The dsl modem is connected to adsl microfilter as usual

any one faced similar problems with their DSL modems ?/
please advise

Correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't the microfilter supposed to be used for the phones and the modem gets connected without the microfilter? That's how i connect all my clients.

Hi baba

one end of filter is connected to main phone socket on the wall the other end has two out put jacks one for phone and one for DSL modem thats how you split phone and dsl caz i have one telephone line coming into my house which is used both for phone and internet ..
so the modem was working fine untill few days ago when i started getting very low dowload speed I dont know whats wrong with the modem.

Nibss Mian,

I have to run back home, check you at night, till then verify these and get back with results, may help to troubleshoot.

“Slow Speed / Low Sync” problems could be a part of

a: Interference from poorly shielded speakers, place modem away from speakers, power supplies or purchase new ones

b: Using cheap “dollar store” RJ-11 phone wire between phonejack and modem

  • use standard “flat wire” RJ-11 wire included with modem, or, if missing, purchase high quality phone cable. Do not use phone extension cable if you can. hope you re using the same cable which showed up with modem. Check connections on each ends.

c: Overclocked the FSB, causing problems with PCI network card, if you are overclocking the front-side bus multiplier, return it to the default multiplier. Or try experimenting with another brand of network card. Try toc check with different PC or laptop.

d: More than 5 devices connected to phone line, different locations in home, or your phone connected with security RF devices / Satellite receivers/ Cable boxes, disconnect momentarily and do speed test. Disconnect enough devices so that you are at a maximum of 3 devices (including answering machines, modems, etc.)

e: Setting PCI latency = 64 in BIOS causing problems with PCI network card

  • go to BIOS and set PCI Latency back to default of 32. Or try experimenting with another brand of network card.

Rest you can, replace defective filter, place modem away from AM radio, use shielded twisted pair cabling from modem to walljack, run a traceroute to dslreports.com and check your results along with speedtest and tweak test results, here http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks.

hello sir ji

how are you long time no talk .yes i am having bit of problems with my modem .its dynalink 1320 sitting close two my home stereo unit which is 230watt power out put so does that causes low speeds too ?
and i am also using extension cable but i have checked my connection even without the extension cable ad still the speed was low .
Now somehow the dsl speed is again back to good but the VOIP quality is still not perfect .So i am thinking of buying a new d-link modem and ditch my current dynalink modem.
also my computer is connected to the dsl modem via USB and not via Ethernet so does that make any difference at all i.e, USB vs Ethernet ??
so if any one can suggest how to trouble shoot voip connection ,that would be great
By the way has anyone using the braintel voip connection ?

UK Connection: Just so u US ppl would know, UK has a different jack in the wall for RJ11 (i have no idea what its called). From that jack they have all other things connected, including analog phones and cable modems. Please excuse me ignorance as i live in US and was just trying to get the job done. :)

Get Comcast Cable Internet, much faster.

256kbs = 32 KBS and you are getting 10KBS. I would say you are lucky as in pak with barintel you are sharing this connection with 4/8 users (check with your ISP for correct number of users in your case). Try to find a time when they are off line. you may experience better speed.

Braintell services are temp. suspended that might be adding to low speed.
