Dryness in eyes

Wearing contacts for over 7 years has wrecked my eyes pretty badly. Almost always, they feel dry and sort of burning. I have been using eye lubricants such as Visine but it gives me only temporary relief. How can I remedy this problem naturally? Since it’s the eyes , I don’t want to use just about anything all the time because, at the end of the day, even Visine is a chemical concoction. I’ve heard of using cool rose water to keep eyes from drying and burning but am not sure where to get pure rose water. Any help pleasE?

Re: Dryness in eyes

Why dont you look for some type of homeopathic drops which are good for dryness or ithchy eyes or red eyes. Perfectly safe and pretty effective. Buy from reputable company though.

Re: Dryness in eyes

hi, i recently developed the same problem. i eventually found out that at some point or other most contact lens wearers will end up developing dry eyes and that will be the end of the road for their contact lens wear. for some people this might be 5 years, for others 20 years.

so firstly, you will HAVE to stop wearing your contact lenses!! ok, i know it’s hard but i went straight to the optician and splashed out on very nice designer frames so i wouldn’t feel bad wearing glasses during the day while i was out.
seriously, if you don’t you will end up damaging your eyes. luckily i realised there was a problem with my eyes and went for a check-up, the dryness had caused the lenses to scratch my cornea but it wasn’t yet too bad and healed quickly

secondly visine are just eye drops and they also contain a vasoconstrictor (this can cause much worse problems and more prominent red blood vessels in the white of the eye with prolonged use). so STOP!

thirdly go to the pharmacy and get some lubricating gel for dry eyes. in the uk they are called viscotears. you can’t wear these while you are wearing contact lenses but they will keep your eyes lubricated until the dry eye condition resolves itself. you can also get a more oily eye ointment to wear overnight.

There is no cure for dry eyes. Just a temporary treatment. Please do not try anything UNTILL OR UNLESS you have first hand knowledge of something worked for someone. Being diabetic I suffer from dry eyes from time to time and I use Systane. It is an OTC and works for me for 12 to 24 hours

Re: Dryness in eyes

Mirch, if the dry eyes have been caused by the contact lens wear, they should correct themselves if you stop wearing the lenses and use some artificial tears in the meanwhile.

OK , I stand corrected. Thanks for sharing.

yeah u guys shouldn't use lenses all the time , alternate them with glasses which might help , u can prevent or minimize dryness by drinking plenty of water to rehydrate yrself , one of the doctor suggested me that using computer + heaters (in winter) in moderation also hepls.

i've a perfect eyesight( as of now) but have chronic dry eyes problem for quiet sometime i use methylcellulose eye drops or gel for relief they're OTC

Re: Dryness in eyes

try to wash ur eyes with rose water, it wil give you shine, and once in a week honey with cotton swab , don,t be afraid for honey it will help u for itch and dry, dullness, and plz try cumember daily i am using it, and i love it, awesomefor me

Re: Dryness in eyes

Vasoconstrictors like Visine shouldn't be used for for than 2/3 times a day for more than 3 days. Artificial tears are probably better to use.

To minimise dryness you may try the followings:
a) Don't direct heaters, fans, air conditioners or hair dryers towards your eyes.
b) Wear glasses when outside on windy days
c) Get a humidifier for your home
d) Remember to blink

Re: Dryness in eyes

I'm suffering from very dry eyes at the moment too after just having recently had laser eye surgery. I'm told this is a temporary side effect though and should ease as time goes on. I really hope it does as at the moment if I miss my hourly eye drops then my eyes are so dry that it hurts to even blink.
