dry skin/primer/foundation

I use Studio Fix in powder form (MAC) on a daily basis but the face products that i use for my acne, dry my skin out and makes it flaky. So when i wear foundation, it looks really odd and the flakes show up even more. Can i solve this problem by wearing a primer first? If not, what else can i do?

Re: dry skin/primer/foundation

Do you use a moisturizer?

I've never used a primer, so I'm not sure how it will affect it.

Re: dry skin/primer/foundation

Hmm primer tends to be really oily, I try to only use it for super special occasions, love how foundation looks with it but too oily for daily use. Use the mosituizer your face products come with right before applying foundation.

Re: dry skin/primer/foundation

ok i recently brought a primer which when i wore with my mac foundation didnt mke ne difference so i tried it on its own , i ifnd it better than foundation as it isnt that heavy and still gives coverage mashallah i have good skin so i dont know the primer acts like a foundation

Re: dry skin/primer/foundation

Ira, if u have dry skin u should opt for liquid foundations and also try other brands as MAC foundations r quite heavy in texture - try Clinique, Bobbi Brown, Imaan, Calvin Klein or even Elizabeth Arden as their foundations are much lighter than MAC foundations. Also, dont use stick or pressed foundations as they dont blend in to dry skins, the more u try n blend them d more ur skin flakes...

Another tip is to ensure ur skin is at its best- drink 8 to 10 glasses of water, eat a good healthy diet wid plenty of fruit n veggies, if required take evening primrose oil capsules as they help wid hormonal balance/monthly cycle and also give u healthier skin.... trust me it all helps, if ur skin is in good condition then makeup will set better n look better on u...

Lastly, apply a light moisturiser before u apply a foundation - allow moisturiser at least a minute to settle into d skin...

Hope dat helps!

Re: dry skin/primer/foundation

Ira. prep u're skin with a moisturizer first and wait 10 mins for it to get absorbed by u're skin Benefit's Dr, Feel Good is one primer which keep u're skin shine-free and smooth..follow that with u're choice of coverage..be it studio fix or any liquid foundation.

P.s: Use a mild scrub once a day..

Re: dry skin/primer/foundation

Thanks for the responses guys.

Sanam and Gina, i dont have dry skin, i actually have very oily skin and only acne products can control it well. But the side effect is dry, patchy skin. I also use a moisturiser daily but the dry skin still stays. I use a scrub every other day, and an enzyme mask which clears off the dead skin cells and makes my skin very smooth but only for a day or two :(

Gina, ihave tried MAC's primer and totally loved it but havent tried Benefit or Dr Feel Good. Do you recommend one over the other for oily skin?

Oh and the reason i use powder foundation is because its so easy to put on and gives medium coverage that i need. No messy hands while applying and so convenient.

Re: dry skin/primer/foundation

Hey Ira,

If you've got oily skin which is prone to acne - then make sure that u only use blemish gels/treatments on affected areas - do not apply all over your face - instead use products which are suitable for your skin type... make sure u cleanse and tone ur face every day and before u go to bed to avoid any breakouts of spots - if your skin is oily then u should use matte products - ie. matte foundations n powders.

Re: dry skin/primer/foundation

Ira use a liquid foundation rather than powder even if it is easier and convinient, it'll be better on dry skil due to med or any other reason.

Re: dry skin/primer/foundation

stop using powder on your face if u have dry skin. it will only accentuate the dryness. drink LOTS of water. i think u should cut down on the scrubbing because you're just drying out the skin. you need more moisture. try a fragrance/oil free moisturizer like organic shea butter at night. primers are ok if u use them only for special occassions because they contain silicones and make the skin feel good temporarily...they arent really doing anything for the skin.

Re: dry skin/primer/foundation

Maheen and Shweets, thanks for your responses. I should say that my liq foundation (MAC) has hte same problem. It also accentuates the dry patches and makes me look sooooo creepy after a while :bummer:

Shweets, whats a good brand for the shea butter? Have you have exp with it it yourself? Btw, i miss your presence at GS. Used to love your journal and posts. Glad to see you posting here.
