Dry Shampoo

Just came across this. I didn’t realize what it was. Always saw the one by theory but thought it was FOR dry hair. Then I looked it up.

It’s a non liquid based shampoo. You’re supposed to use it without water.

Anyone using these ?

Re: Dry Shampoo

They smell terrible (or at least the one I bought). I made the mistake of getting a white one rather than one that matches my hair because you end up with white patches in the head which you have to comb out. It's best to keep it for when you're travelling or emergencies.

Idk, i've used it a couple of times but it makes my hair oilier. I think the brand i use is crappy, i got it at Walgreens.

I think it's more for people who style their hair often and don't want to wash their hair.. so it freahens up the hair. If u restyle, the dry shampoo helps keep hold as well, i think.

Re: Dry Shampoo

Dry shampoo is basically corn starch or other white starch in an aerosol can. You spray it onto the scalp where it's greasy and brush your hair to get rid of the white powder and the grease is gone. It also has a fragrance to freshen up your hair.
I have been experiencing really oily hair these days during pregnancy. My hair gets visibly oily near the temples and ears within 12-18 hours of washing. So I've been using a hack. I just sprinkle a little baby powder into the scalp above my ears, work it in and wait 5 mins, then brush hair and dust off any excess. It takes practice because you can easily sprinkle too much powder and it'll turn your hair grayish. I guess that's why people buy dry shampoo instead because it's in an aerosol and only a small amount of the powder comes out. By the way, these days baby powder is talc free so its main ingredient is corn starch (just like dry shampoo too)
You can watch videos on YouTube of this, a lot of people have been using baby powder instead of dry shampoo

Re: Dry Shampoo

I tried both baby powder and dry shampoo. I use a volumising dry shampoo i prefer the dry shampoo a bit more since it adds volume i also find it reduces the oily appearence alot more. The key is to spray it then comb it out for a natural look and to avoid white marks you can also but it in the night before you sleep for a more natural look it looks just as if i washed my hair. If you like the effect of baby powder then you will like dry shampoo. Dont overuse it and make sure to wash it out your hair well with a good foaming shampoo.

Re: Dry Shampoo

Yeah applying it overnight gives the best look. I've used a few dry shampoos but my only problem with them is that the good ones are a bit expensive for the amount of product you get. And these days during pregnancy it's just cheaper for me to sprinkle a little baby powder. I use the travel size one from Target so I can easily control it and only sprinkle a small amount.

Re: Dry Shampoo

I really wanted to like dry shampoo, since I have oily oily scalp/skin.

I have used these two brands (Ojon/Oscar blandi)…Ojon bottle got clogged up like 2nd week after purchase (major boo) If I remember correctly there was a lot of fallout on my shirt also, looked like I had dandruff but I think its the dry shampooing drying itself off

OB one broke me out on my scalp like top/bottom/everywhere. Jesus :hoonh:

So yes I won’t ever be interested in anything like this again.

ps: And I know some hair stylists use it after doing an up-do for volume/to hold up the style for more than 8 hours+?

Re: Dry Shampoo

Mr. Furman, you mean to say you didn't shampoo your hair, and you want us to believe our client is guilty?

Re: Dry Shampoo

Im surprised how many people it doesnt work for! Perhaps its because i have dry hair?

Re: Dry Shampoo

very informative as I was reading all the comments. I have seen my daughter using it quite often and i honestly hate it as she thinks its the best thing in the world as her hair becomes oily the very next day.But i think when she uses the dry shampoo it makes her hair look more rough and dusky rather then clean and shinny.

Re: Dry Shampoo

LOVE DRY SHAMPOO! we have a brand called batiste in the UK. It's very popular and was one of the first dry shampoo's that came out. It is essentially a powder type product that comes out in a spray from and soaks up the grease from your scalp.

Re: Dry Shampoo

I have Batiste and it's absolutely amazing!
No fall out and various fragrances are available. It's great for when you are short on time and your hair cannot go without a blow-dry/style if you wash it.
If you use it correctly, the way a stylist prescribes, then you should not have white spots on your head nor should your hair lack shine.

Re: Dry Shampoo

This product is my holy grail. I normally start getting greasy hair the day after washing it, and I use this to avoid washing my hair everyday to lessen the damage. The brand I use is called batiste and it's a pretty amazing dry shampoo.

Also, try leaving the product in your hair for at least 30 seconds, then massage it in your roots before brushing it out. This technique works for me and there should be no white marks.

Re: Dry Shampoo

There are other products that are "clear" dry shampoos.....so no issues with hair looking white/grey but I haven't checked the content so I don't know how they work.....I don't think that they are as effective either.

Re: Dry Shampoo

Is batiste in the U.S.?

I have used Colab dry shampoo by RuthCrilly and found it much better in performance and ease of use. Try it if you can find it somewhere.
Batiste is fine, too.

Re: Dry Shampoo

@PCG you can find Batiste at Ulta. I've seen the mini one in the checkout area so you can get that and try it out first. It is sold in Target too.
It also comes in a brown shade, but that's not good. Just get the original one in white powder.

Re: Dry Shampoo

yes…you can find it in the US.
I get mine from Winners in Canada. They have both the full size spray can and they have a three pack of travel sizes. I got the three pack first to try out the different fragrances and then went back for the regular size can.

Dry Shampoo

Dry shampoo is a life saver! I love it! I use Olandi and totally in love with it. It's smells great too.

Re: Dry Shampoo

Thanks Munza. The next time I go to Winners -I know what to get !

Ive used baby powder up till now. It certainly takes away the oily appearance and adds volume but takes away the shine.
Not to mention the buildup in under your nails when you casually scratch your scalp. Gross!
Wash with a clarifying shampoo afterwards
