Re: dry scalp???? help pls
Hi Desigirl321!!! Firstly a huge congratulations on becoming a mum!!!!
The best advice I've heard and seen work is to massage olive oil gently at night onto baby's scalp everynight and then in the morning with a baby hair brush (the really really soft ones!!) brush through the area- you should find the dry skin flake off.
It's perfectly normal for babies to get this- is called cradle cap and there are lots of solutions out there but from experience of my nephews and nieces olive oil is the best!!
Good luck! xx
Re: dry scalp???? help pls
Like the poster above said... Its normal and will go away ....
But u really dont need to shower him every other day... Newborns dont get dirty... Sponge him...its nicer in the skin...showering has a dryong effect on a new baby's skin...
For my son...it went away with shaving his head...the 2nd time around. No amount of oil helped.
But it does work for most babies..... Massage him very well at bedtime... Sponge him next morning... Brush his hair with a soft brush.... Massage the scalp even... It will go away
Re: dry scalp???? help pls
my daughter also had severe dryness she also had thick dry patches and i oiled her air daily and massaged more on the dandaruff.....i dont think it is a good idea to get head shaved ther is possiblity of cuts in this condition......just oil his head.....
and dont worry dear he will be fine InshAllah....
Re: dry scalp???? help pls
My daughter had the same thing so i got a special shampoo from the doctor for cradle cap and it went away in a couple of days. You can even buy shampoo for cradle cap from the pharmacy.
But it's true no need to bath baby every day or every other day (i did the same...and it casued more problems) instead Top n' Tail. Which means clean face and bum with cotton wool and warm water every day. No need to shampoo hair etc...everyday. Also, don't use any products like Johnsons.....if you really want to put a capful of oilatum in the bath.
Also, don't put hat on the baby when you are at home as that might be contributing to the dry scalp.
Most of all don't worry it will go.
Re: dry scalp???? help pls
My daughter had this too. It's cause Cradle Cap and the dryness/scabs is caused when the baby's skin has the inability to shed the dry/dead skin so new skin froms underneath and the dead/dry skin stays on top causing the "scalpiness" and "scabs".
There is a cradle cap shampoo called Dentinox (in UK) which works really well and you should see an improvement with this in days.
Im not sure olive oil is the best thing as I tried it and it made no difference. I also remember reading something a while later that discouraged the use of olive oil.
Re: dry scalp???? help pls
Doc prescribed "Selsun Blue" shampoo for each of my children. Worked like a charm. Cradle Cap Shampoo did nothing for us.
Re: dry scalp???? help pls
yeah sounds like cradle cap.
congrats on having a baby. best thing to use is olive oil on baby. you'll have to use it 3-4 times a day.
