Re: Dry mouth and smelly breath

drink lots of water,i think ur stomach is problematic or u must consult with ur doc for ur stomach, also take notice abut ur digestive system wether its working or u hv some problem (constipation ect).all this tell ur doctor n wat u can do clean ur teeth 3 times(after every meal).

Re: Dry mouth and smelly breath

also sometimes ppl have bleeding gums...which can also give u a smelly breath

Re: Dry mouth and smelly breath

sunset eyes,

There are so many things that can be causing your bad breath. Dy mouth like you mentioned could be one of the causes so continue to do what you are doing and drink plenty of water.

It can be caused by the foods you eat..diets high in protein or too much dairy can cause bad breath as well. So try limiting these foods from your diet and see if it helps.

You mentioned that you brush 2x daily and use mouth wash but there was no mention of flossing after meals. Sometimes food stuck in b/w your teeth can cause bad breath. Give it a try and see if that helps.

At your next dental cleaning maybe you can discuss this matter with the dentist ......perhaps he/she can better evaluate it.

Re: Dry mouth and smelly breath

SE,
I think you should go to your dentist for a thorough cleaning of teeth/gums. They can remove anything and everything that might be unreachable when you're brushing. Mouthwash is just like using perfume to hide the smell when people don't shower for days. My dentist has told me again and again that mouthwash doesn't do jack. I don't know if you have a tongue cleaner but please keep one in your bathroom. It grosses me out that people use toothbrush to clean off the goo accumulated on their tongue but using a tongue cleaner is SO much better. Many times, there's so much goo on the tongue itself that it causes the bad smell even if your teeth are sparkling clean. Use that before brushing your teeth every morning or night. Chewing apples and drinking cranberry juice is also very good for your teeth. Apples especially make your teeth and gum stronger while cleaning them and cranberry juice prevents cavities. I personally love the new Aqua fresh advanced clean toothpaste. I noticed a big difference in my teeth (in terms of cleaning, smell, overall appearance) and it really helps.

Re: Dry mouth and smelly breath

Oh thanks guys.

Horizon - hmmm constipation is something i have at the moment - what can i do at home to make it better - i would rather not go to the doc.

Catty - i used to have bleeding gums but no longer AH

Angel Eyes - Thanks for your detailed reply - i do floss but sometimes before going to bed. Diet wise - its balanced with fruits - protein and carbs ratio is ok too. Arrrggghhh...i will have to carry my floss with me...recently its very dry and thats when the bad breath started.

Re: Dry mouth and smelly breath

I recently read that mouthwash might cause bad breath, surprisingly. b/c bad breath is caused by dryness of the throat...which is dried out b/c of the mouth wash. i dunno how accurate that is, but try not using mouth wash fo ra few days?

Re: Dry mouth and smelly breath

Shay @ work @ the mo - will reply soon inshallah in details.

Re: Dry mouth and smelly breath

Maybe a tongue scraper needed?

Re: Dry mouth and smelly breath

eat lots of fiber. include fruits in your diet if you havent already especially apples. Apples are loaded with fiber as well. drink plenty of water.

I have also heard that flax seeds act as a laxative. Maybe you can sprinkle some in your meals.

Re: Dry mouth and smelly breath

SE.
It may not be as big issue as you think it is. ALL of us pakistanis have bad breath in ramzan. I finally found out why that happens.
Solution is at night thoroughly floss your teeth. Meat particles are less likely to get decomposed by it self unlike veg etc.
So floss at night brush you teeth, in the morning breath on any one with full confidence. (off course you brush in the morning too.)

Re: Dry mouth and smelly breath

sumtimes u can get these cysts developing in the tonsils, which cause bad breath, itz quite common but goes unnoticed sumtimes...get it cheked out by the doc...they are visible so hav a look urself if u dnt want to go to the doctors....small white spots like in the tonsils. They are treated with antibiotics nuthing to worry abt really! thought i'd bring it to ur notice, it may just b an indigestion problem or gum infection or sumthing.

Re: Dry mouth and smelly breath

Sara - I didnt use mouthwash that much @ night so started using regularly and yes that could be it - m gonna stop using it!

KA - i do floss but i can only reach the front - dont know how to floss properly i guess. And yes i do brush morning & night as stated in my 1st post.

MM - thanks for letting me know - will check out my tonsils as i am having problems with my throat too..

Thanks everyone!

Re: Dry mouth and smelly breath

Maybe you suffer from Halitosis. Drink a lot of water. Use a sugar free chewing gum after a meal. Use a mouth wash particularly before going to sleep.

Re: Dry mouth and smelly breath

you need zink.....

Re: Dry mouth and smelly breath

Gargling with an antiseptic mouthwash helps too...especially after every meal.

Also, chewing sugar free gum could help. YOu also get these Listerine strips that dissolve on the tongue.

And of course regular flossing.

If all these don't help, you may need to see your doc.

Re: Dry mouth and smelly breath

as home remedy for constipation bannanas r very benificial,,eat 2 bannanas at a time daily n include fibre in ur diet n drink water water water, bcuz i had the constipation prblm n my doc recomended me only lots of water to drink.

Re: Dry mouth and smelly breath

so ur mouth is dry so dont drink lots of water but take a sip ot two wen ur mouth is getting dry

water just flushes the smell causing bacteria so thats y they say drink water

its not that if u drink too much water u eleminate bad smell

so have a sip ot two just to keep urmouth moist

and check if ur mouth wash is alcohol based

cuz alcohol actually dries the mouth even more and may be thats y ur having bad breath

so switch to non-alcoholic mouth wash

and chew gum and keep those smokers gelatine strips with u 1 strip can stop bad breath for quite sumtime

keep flossing and clean ur tongue too

Re: Dry mouth and smelly breath

I as a doctor would suggest eating lots of garlic like 10-20 cloves a day and voila the problem will be solved :)

Re: Dry mouth and smelly breath

If garlic cloves dnt work, onions do wonders :D
